I guess we'll have a meet-up at The Farriers on the Saturday evening (click on the hotlink — same place as last time two years ago, but considerably re-modelled & enlarged, more upmarket, but still easy to find for out-of-towners), and to guarantee us some space (it is a very popular venue) I'll go and see them next Thursday and make a booking in the name of The Wings Over New Zealand Aviation Forum. If I could have a rough head-count by then, that would be great as I could let them know approximately how many people to expect (give or take a few, naturally). To download their current main menu, CLICK HERE, or click on DESSERTS or DRINKS for those menus. Make a post if you are attending (I'll start a list with my name, and everybody who thinks they may attend can copy the list to a new message and add their name to it). Also indicate whether you would prefer to sit inside, outside, or are happy with either. And I guess we'll need to work out roughly what time it will kick-off so I can let the manager of The Farriers know approximately when to expect us.

I will be there for sure. I don't care where we sit so long as there's a bar. I think Corin McCrae of Aerowood will also be with me.
Also Bevan Dewes has indicated he hopes to come, and so has Pete 'Ando' Anderson.

Will try and get there Dave, will be airside the whole time which means lots of walking and the organisers were good enough to give me one of their hotel rooms which is great but its 5k from the venue so I might be a bit buggered by the end of Saturday and taxis will be difficult to get hold of I would think. I sure could do with a blow out though!!

There are several more who've said to me over the past week or so that they'll try to get along, so trying to make a count here will probably be a bit pointless as not all of them will stick their name down here but may turn up anyway.

What I'd like is a rough count of the maximum we are likely to get. I'm thinking in terms of about twenty, but hopefully I'll have a better idea by Thursday when I'll pop around the corner and have a chat to the manager at The Farriers.
I'll make a booking but tell them the final number may go up or down a bit.
It's mostly a matter of ensuring they reserve space for us on what will probably be a busy night everywhere in Masterton.
Any idea of what time I should tell them?
18:00hrs? 18:30hrs? 19:00hrs?

I've made a booking at The Farriers for 6:30pm on Saturday, 17th January 2015. The booking is in the name of The Wings Over New Zealand Aviation Forum, with my name and phone number attached to the booking. If you get lost, phone or text me on 027-4830263. The booking is for twenty persons, but I explained to them the number could vary up or down a bit and they are happy to accommodate that, and they also know it will be a social occasion and that we could be there for a number of hours. They are going to make a decision on the day where to set-up a place for us. If the weather is good and warm temperatures are forecast for the evening, they will set-up for us outside (under shade-cloth), but if the forecast isn't so good, they will set-up for us inside. For those of you who haven't been there before, The Farriers (click on the link) is at the northern end (north-eastern if you wish to be pedantic) of the downtown area of Masterton, between Chapel Street (SH2) and Queen Street (the main shopping street) right next to the large roundabout. If you arrive on foot, you can enter from Queen Street or Chapel Street, but if you drive there, the entrance to the carpark is on Chapel Street (SH2) across the road from the Masterton Fire Station (which fills the block between Hope and Villa streets).

As a matter of interest, The Farriers is one of the sponsors of Wings Over Wairarapa. Another good reason to have our meet-up there.

Much as I'd like to we've got a BBQ engagement back in Wellington after the show so won't be there. Last time my then 4yo daughter kept dragging me outside, but that had an unexpected reward. The evening was warm, calm and still, and in the distance a Spitfire could be heard (and occasionally seen) doing aerobatics. It was pretty much perfect.
Have a good time folks!

How did it go, team? Did it go? I was hoping for a photo or two of a bunch of cheery forumites sharing an adult beverage!

It was good. We had a lot less people show than had indicated, but they had good reason as some of them were exceedingly busy tied up with the airshow, and others were absolutely buggered from that awful hot day at the airfield. But I think we got 12 or so there and it was a nice way to end a good day.

Good point about the photos - not even a smart phone was seen to take a snapshot - sorry... too busy talking haha! A lovely meal and great friends there too. Didn't get to chat to all and it was a lovely but pricey meal - $36 mains - but the town water served chilled was disappointing - straight dosed town water, not filtered, tasted foul. I made the comment to the restaurant manager who said a filtering and chilling plant was on order! So sorry to disappoint but we were relaxing and enjoyed the company and the wine a lot!! We didn't even get Dave up to share a speech about the history of the forum on it's almost 10 years of existence, perhaps Omaka... if Dave goes down

BTW - many thanks to KTJ for organising the function location - it was spacious and not at all noisy and the service was very good. Huge parking space, under utilised!! Thanks Bruce.
