That's so cool! I think this Mossie has the best colour scheme of any of them as well. Congratulations to all involved.

There is a few private collectors or collections in Australia who have a large holding of metal components and no original wood work, one I remember made a wooden mock up posted a long time ago. Would be nice if these could go together to form a public display. Much like the composite in the UK which recently was made to be ground running condition. Only personal thoughts and no connection to anyone.

Some years ago I watched a TV programme about a farmer on Queensland's Darlings Downs who had a collection of aero engines including a radial, possibly a P&W and a pair of Merlin's from A Mosquito, one of which he ran-up periodically.

This stuff is just junk. Maybe could try and make a big model Mossie out of it but how long it would last is up in the air. All the metal parts have been removed and used in modern reproduction of current flying TV959 in USA, called a restoration. I do believe someone out there will spend $175,000 for rotting and delaminating plywood.

One man's junk is another man's thousands of man hours saved (and a third man's 1/4 mill).

It should be donated to you guys at ferrymead, maybe salvage some parts, rather than line pockets with money.

Surely it's the owner's prerogative to do what they want with it. The armchair critics seem to out in force....

I do believe someone out there will spend $175,000 for rotting and delaminating plywood. Hardly rotting plywood. It has always been undercover (displayed in the IWM Lambeth and then stored with TFC Duxford) and IIRC only failed being used in the restoration by a small margin following structural testing by Avspecs.

An article in the February 2022 issue of Aeroplane Monthly provides an update on this. The remains of TV959 have been acquired by the Collings Foundation for use in a static build. Collings have also acquired the remains of Mosquito FBVI RS505 from Sweden. This aircraft force-landed on an ice-covered lake and subsequently sank. The various components that have been recovered over the years provide an identity and will be combined with the non-airworthy fuselage and wings of TV959 to form the basis of a rebuild for static display.
I think this is probably the best possible outcome, as lots of non-airworthy wooden parts will be amalgamated with lots of non-airworthy metal parts to form a complete but non-airworthy museum aircraft.
