Very interesting Errol. Sounds like that 3-Stop filter was a good investment.

AvSpecs has posted a video of the maiden taxi on their Facebook page (link)(you may see a forum member documenting the event). I had such a big stupid grin watching that! Awesome!!! Said forum member's veiwpoint:

Wal Denholm was on RadioLive just after 10 this morning (link) for an interview about TV959. In it he says they aim to have CAA certification and test flying in the next couple of weeks...and for TV959 to fly in the Battle Of Britain flypast and be part of the public display at the NZ Warbirds Association on 18 September 2016. Great news!

There hasn't been an Open Day announcement (yet?), right?
I assume we will be told when things are more certain, but it might not be a full standard Open Day event, but rather a controlled viewing opportunity?

Yet another Kiwi triumph for all concerned.

I'm not of aware of any announcement, but I was thinking a "controlled viewing opportunity" as well if it's not an Open Day. My guess is we would've heard about an actual Open Day by now if that was the plan?

Warbirds should whip up an Open Day to fit around the availability of TV959 - good opportunity to raise some more funds for that new hangar! I'm sure the team could pull one together pretty quickly.

Um... I'm not sure you realise how much work is involved in organising even a simple aviation event. Its not something you just "whip up". For a start CAA rules require a minimum of 90 day's notice of such an aviation event. That doesnt include such things as organising traffic management, parking, risk management plans and even getting enough portaloos. this is the 21st Century, that is the way things are done. It also puts undue pressure on Avspecs to meet the deadline and have the machine flying at a set date - let the guys work to the projects own schedule so they can be satisfied it is the best it can possibly be, without stressing everyone out.

Perhaps the wording "Warbirds could" may have been more appropriate In fairness to fwx (and playing devil's advocate), AvSpecs did have a deadline for KA114's return in the form of the Mosquito Launch Spectacular event. I'm in no way suggesting anything comparable is needed/expected for TV959 and I know nothing of the background to organising that event (only that I'm certain it was all arranged way in advance), only pointing it out.

All good, I was only half-serious in the suggestion, but Warren does mention a date and occasion of some kind, so obviously a deadline is not an issue. I'm a Warbirds member and was a helper at KA114's big debut, but I'm not involved in any of the planning for these things, so happy for those in the know to work it all out. Just very pleased that there will be some kind of opportunity for the public to pay tribute to Avspecs and their latest gift to the aviation community. And of course a huge thanks to the owner for sharing TV959 with us!!

Having been involved in many airshows, fly-ins etc it is a mammoth task to put something together like that. The mere fact that it shall be made available for viewing and possibly participate in a Fly-Past is fantastic and many, many thanks to the owner for permitting that. My mind goes back to that momentous day when the last one flew. We were waiting for our Auckland flight in Sydney, I found an internet site and opened WONZ. Before I went to the airport nothing but there she was with her gear coming up !!!! Celebrations with Bob De La Hunty and Gordo plus others in Sydney Airport Maccas !And the airshow! What a day. Just hearing the sound of those Merlins for the first time and being priviledged to talk about it. Afterwards the dinner in the Warbirds hangar. What a wonderful series of memories..... and its all about to happen again. Warren, our hats off to you and the team not forgetting Glyn and what he has done for historic aviation..........all deserve gongs.... or as my mate Trevor says, "Medals and beers all round..."

This is the OFFICIAL word from NZ Warbirds Manager Garry Rasmussen:
"Just to let you know in case you are interested, we are having a Battle of Britain flypast on the 18th September which we hope will include the Mosquito. After the flypast we will be having a small open day type day where the Mozzie and other aircraft will be on ground display for members and any warbirds enthusiasts to come and view. We thought you might be interested in joining us. I hope you can make it."

I think we are at the "waiting for CAA" stage. While they have be super-helpful when important in the past e.g. Spitfire NH799 to Omaka, there isn't actually a hard deadline that I'm aware of in this case.
