G'Day everyone,
We’re launching a very special event, inspired by the success of this forum and the Wings over New Zealand Podcast series.
It’s Wings Over Australia (WOA). We’re launching the appeal here, and we want your help in making WONZ’s 2015 offshoot a success.
The plan, developed by Grant McHerron of ‘Plane Crazy Down Under’ and myself, James Kightly (JDK / Vintage Aero Writer) is to bring Dave Homewood to Melbourne in November and to host him at my place, from where we’ll visit museums at Tyabb, Moorabbin, Point Cook and the B-24 Restoration facility, before visiting Temora for the Warbirds Down Under airshow. On top of that, we’ll also visit Canberra for the Australian War Memorial and maybe the AWM Treloar storage & restoration centre.
I'm covering costs of looking after Dave while I'm hosting him and driving, and Matt Austin has kindly offered to host us while we visit Temora. What’s left is to fund-raise money to get Dave from Cambridge, NZ, to Australia.
It should be fun, but it’s definitely going to be a lot of hard work as Dave will meet and interview a very interesting selection of veterans, aviators and historians in the Australian aviation and military history scene and record material for a special set of Wings of Australia episodes of his famous WONZ Show podcast.
(Here’s a quick link to some earlier WONZ podcasts that the Wings Over Australia shows should be similar to: Wings over Wairarapa show www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZ_Show_21_30.html#Ep30_WOW
Classic Fighters 2013 Airshow www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZ_Show_41_50.html#Ep_42_Classic_Fighters .)
Dave will also be introduced to Air Force veterans, warbird owners and restorers, museum experts and others interested in old aeroplanes in Australia, and you'll find numerous similar interviews already on the WONZ Show site at:
www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZ_Show.html
But we need your help to make it happen. We’ve set up a ‘Give A Little’ account:
and we need cash donations and, where appropriate, help in kind is welcome too.
We are looking at a range of rewards for donors. Donors of NZ$20 will get a personalised ‘thank you’ from Dave and a specially chosen set of images relating to the trip. For larger donations we are currently considering some options and are keen for suggestions and help.
There will also be an ‘Australian wing’ WONZ Forum Meet, probably at Temora on the Saturday night, but Dave’s keen to meet up with any forum members who can catch us as we travel too. Be in touch!
So we need you to make this possible. Please dig deep to fund this, and any other help that can be used will be gratefully taken on board. Current target is NZ$1,000, which should cover all cost we can’t avoid.
We plan to have a ‘helpers’ page acknowledging those that have made it possible, as well as acknowledging all donors that we can.
Any funds excess to the minimum costs we are working to will be passed over to the future running of WONZ, so it’s a double good cause.
Regards,
James
