Who's heading to Oshkosh for the biggest airshow in the world this year?
And I am interested to know too, apart from the Avspecs team who will be there with the Mosquito KA114, will there be any other kiwi companies represented and putting on displays or having stalls there?

Steve Cox from Pioneer Aero will be at the show for the week, no booth but will be onsite.

My mate Glen Towler, who some of you met at Ardmore's last open day, left Wellington this morning for the show. He's been several times and also volunteered, so I'll be keeping an eye on his FB and Twitter feeds.

All the shows from Warbird Radio network will be there (except for the Wings Over New Zealand Show, sadly) recording material to broadcast, so I'm looking forward to those shows.

Having a trawl around the live Oshkosh webcams this morning Fri NZ, Thursday Osh time, I'm amazed how hard it is to spot almost any aircraft yet. I know it's still 3 days to start but for the numbers involved, I'd have thought there'd be a good number of early arrivals on site already. Plenty of marquees, the odd truck, but . . . . . will be interesting to monitor the build up over the next couple of days.

The B-29 Doc most likely won't be there, but Bob DeFord's Jurca MJ-100 Spitfire replica (Allison-powered) will, and there's speculation at WIX that the just-flown Rod Lewis Douglas A-20 may make it.

No Doc leaves a clearer run for a certain restorer and a certain wrench. I see Kermits Mossie has been towed around to alongside the Warbirds In Review pan.

Oshkosh can get some pretty intense storms spring up quite suddenly. In 2013 when I was there the afternoon show was called off suddenly due to thunderstorm reports. everyone made their way into the big show hangars, despite largely benign conditions. within minutes an incredibly intense squall hit the place with fierce winds and rain. It lasted about 5 or 6 minutes and normal pleasant, sunny conditions returned. No significant damage to the show site, but on returning to my tent in Camp Scholler (the big on - site camping area) I found my tent partially collapsed with a broken pole. With plenty of homebuilders around it was easy enough to acquire some gaffer tape and make a suitable repair! The weather systems in a big continental land mass, beside the great lakes, are very differnt to back home!

Going from the webcam screenshot that Peter Ryan sent me this morning, the Mosquito KA114 has arrived safely at Airventure and is parked next to Kermit Weeks' example. Two No. 487 (NZ) Squadron marked Mossies together!!

I see Avspecs won a very well deserved golden wrench award for the Mosquito. And looks like the Mosquito got Grand Champion World War 2 category.
