Thanks Errol. Any idea of the meanings of 'Rot' (airbase location?), 'Stn' and 'WA2'?
<Edit> I see elsewhere 'Hob' and 'When' which I guess are Hobsonville & Whenuapai. Would 'Rot' (Rotorua?) be her first posting?

Yes Rotorua. It was a dispersed station, ie they took over a load of existing buildings and hotels in the town, and created the Initial Training Wing school for new aircrew entrants (which shifted there fro RNZAF Station Levin, and Wereroa). Also at RNZAF Station Rotorua was an Air Force hospital for wounded an ill airmen to rest and recuperate. And for a short time the office for RNZAF Contact Magazine was also based there.

Interesting details - thank you Dave.
And apologies Errol... I've just noticed that, at the the top of each of those WAAF lists, you quite clearly explained the meaning of the data!

Is there some way of getting it in, say, a table format where each of the fields you list are in separate columns, rather than in one text string? Or perhaps a CSV file with delimiters?

Philip, I've had a similar request from the Auckland War Memorial Museum this day also. Is your request related? If not send an email request to me at errol.martyn@xtra.co.nz Cheers, Errol

Greetings all - I'm looking for any further info re Rona M Brown's time at Whenuapai/Hobsonville where she was temporary Section Office. She is listed among the WAAFs above as w 2258 Brown, R M Miss Rona Margaret 420421 Rot, Stn as WA2 Could someone interpret those abbreviations for me? Thanks :-)

Rot = Rotorua (station)
W 2258 = Service number (RNZAF equivalent of what the Army would term a Regimental Number. The W prefix indicates she was a woman/female.)
420421 = date (yy/mm/dd)
Stn = Station.
WA2 = Woman Auxiliary, 2nd Class (classification; this is the lowest classification in the WAAF, next up is WA1)
It is apparent (according to the above) that she was later commissioned in rank of Assistant Section Officer, then promoted to the next highest rank, Section Officer. The term "temporary" which appears before "Section Officer" above merely indicates that this rank was a temporary one, as were practically ALL wartime ranks, male and female.
