I have just read this thread and while I cant add anything I want to make a comment. The progress of this thread clearly illustrates the power of the 'network' and the incredible power that is contained in technology and especially the Internet.
This started with a simple enquiry about a 485 Squadron pilot wo seemed to have disappeared into the ether. It ended with input from his family and member producing photos of his flying years and even a recording that he made way back during the war. Truly amazing.

My 3rd Great Uncle was Flying Officer Fredrick George Stowell, KIA Hungry 8 August 1944.RNZAF 70 Sqn RAF.
I think he is in one of the photos, but I cannot be 100% certain.
