Unfortunately, most of the debate on here is based upon limited information (only the publicly available stuff). It is interesting to note that defense professionals (on other aviation/defense forums) consider the P-8 to be on "another level" when assessing it's information, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, together with it's sensor/information sharing abilities. Future upgrade potential is also considered to be superior. Reading what is on that other forum it would be safe to say that there isn't any more insight on what platforms can and can't do. There is more chest thumping about 'expertise' though. Those who know don't say and those who say don't know. SaveSave

It is true that some forums do have more than their share of "chest thumpers" (present company excepted, of course... ) But some defense professionals/analysts can and do provide relevant and accurate information/insight without compromising their work or their positions. It just a matter of "sorting the wheat from the chaff"

The Aussie P-8 (just one delivered so far according to ADF Serials) visited AKL today (I think). /photo/1

I believe they have two and this could be the third.

I believe they have two and this could be the third. Not with the serial of A47-001 :-) Although some searching suggests that A47-003 has reached Australia, while A47-004 has had it's first flight (needs mods before delivery).

Sorry - didn't have serial, but was aware No 3 was on delivery flight earlier today.

It looks like an airliner, but is covered in suspicious pods and bumps, has a curious circle insignia that doesn't belong to any airline (these people are seriously that inept that they don't recognise RAAF roundels), so is obviously operated by "them"

Not Whenuapai at full load! My mistake, I thought a USN P-8 had already been through Whenuapai

"why, commonality with our allies" or is it a common failure point. The west does appear to be grossly over looking the value of diversity in an alliance, may have something to do with over confidence / group think issues / continuous war against 3rd world countries.
Low level flight in a P8 kills range. If it doesn't give us the range penalty for a descent to sea level and climb back to altitude.
The arguments for the P8 assume the US will carry on as is with regard to DOD spending, we know the current levels of spending can't be maintained over the life of the P8.

I mean, why would you cover up all the windows unless you had something to hide?

Neighbourhood watch would suggest covered up windows and lots of air vents, must be a flying P house!(even named P-8!)

Sorry - didn't have serial, but was aware No 3 was on delivery flight earlier today. The photo on the tweet was of A47-001, but the aircraft at AKL yesterday (or was it Friday) was A47-003, so that makes sense now! Fight ASY181 leaving Honolulu on the 12th is now showing up on free Flightradar24 (and MRC post below). mrcaviation.blogspot.co.nz/2017/05/raaf-visitors.html
