Pus the engine parts for the Swordfish are nearly impossible to get, that is why the RNHF only flies one of their three examples...

Yep, just a wee joke, I was thinking Fairey Swordfish, which would be awesome if we got some.

I would make every effort I could to get into the RNZAF if 5Sqn got those, Dave!

Whichever government is formed after the election they are still going to have to purchase replacements for the Orions. It's a bit stupid to delay that for months just so your books look a bit better. The public at large knows and understands the value and worth of the work of No. 5 Squadron, and would see such an investment as prudent, no matter who makes it. I just hope that we don't end up with a Greens/Labour coalition, unlikely as that seems, because I doubt they'll have the sense to do what is right.

Not complicated at all, remember Labour has done this before, you know, F-16s!. They'll happily spend half the cost of buying something to cancel it, saving the Taxpayers the other half.Aren't they nice...

F16's owned by the PAF are not Orion replacements. The F16s have now all been delivered to their true owners along with another dozen as well. Key had nine years to replace the fighter wing- do you see one? Do not say it is not possible because have a look at what the Singapore AF did I would expect replacements for the Orions to be ordered since the P3's operate both SAR in the Pacific as well as NZ, and support Customs in coastal surveillance. Likewise the C130 replacements would go ahead because they would be seen by Greens/Labour as supporting the Pacific region in emergencies not to mention supporting NZ forces. There was no chance that the replacements would be ordered in June since I believe the plan was always for them to be announced sometime in the new year. I think Brownless said something about that. It is now unlikely that you will see anything this year anyway since there is likely to be a coalition whoever wins and partners will have to be "consulted" and then you have Xmas/New Year holidays. February at the earliest?

Providing the seller of Bismarck provides a CIF contract with the vessel in operating condition and a good supply of 15 inch shells why not?. Take off the back turrets and put in a flight deck and some Standard SAMs. Replace the 150 mm with Tomahawks and Seasparrow ESM. You would have a real kickass ship that only a nuke would stop.

I would expect the recruiters to be very busy from now.RNZAF can barely muster enough aircrew for the current fleet of 5 C-130 how are they going to sustain 8?.And where are they going to park them, park and ride in Auckers is atrocious!. 'Bring back the Sunderland' we could start a 'give a little(Andrew or Stewart)' fundraiser.

Spotted a couple of Senior Engineers from the RNZAF inspecting a the 2 slightly use PBY-5 in Darwin harbour two mths ago. Now it all makes sense 3 PBY-5's and Sunderland. Oh I forgot there is also a Hastings at the back of Darwin Air Museum, but needs a bit of work done it since the RNZAF left it here a wee ago. HARS has a couple of Neptune's and the two RAAF ones up in Townsville as a back up.

Those photos are excellent, but it took me ages to download them all so I've created a torrent file of them that I'll be hosting for a while. It's 269MB total, here is the magnet link:

Don't panic, I have just emailed the new US Ambassador and told him we are in the market for some cheap F-16s. No reply yet...
