I thought they had got most of the spares still available, which helps? So they are in the painful situation of needing to refurb the wings, but only getting another 5 years use out of them (rather than 15 years as planned), and annoying the French who they were planning a joint replacement with for 2035.

I understood they missed out, either gone to other operators in a similar position or contractors looking to make bigger bucks.

Some interesting comparisons of P-3 vs P-8 by a user.

Sounds like Germany is looking to join the P-8 community, just been approved for a possible FMS sale of 5 x P-8s. That will be a kick in the teeth for the European MPA project if it goes ahead.

Wonder if they will end up at Coulson Aviation for fire bomber conversions

The RAAF have deployed life rafts from the P-8 Statement regarding a successful rescue in the Indian Ocean:
On Friday and again on Saturday night the Australian Defence Force deployed P-8A Poseidon aircraft to deliver life rafts to 20 stranded fishermen who were clinging to their vessel 670nm west of Perth.

If anyone is interested in seeing what the future looks like, there is an RAAF P-8 at Whenuapai today..

You make a good point keroburner, how come we're told the RNZAF ones cannot operate from Whenuapai, but an RAAF one can? Is it just the noise?

From memory it's because the P8 can't get in or out of Whenuapai with full tanks & weapons load on board & Ohakea is the only place they can arm the aircraft so hence the move south.

That would make sense I guess.

As well as training up Kiwis on the P8s we also have RAF crews on the Wedgetails readying for their intro of the type. news.defence.gov.au/capability/international-exchange-exerciseRe Whenuapai I guess expansion there was put to rest when housing was permitted to go up so close? By my google map measuring around 400m from new housing to the apron!
