There's a shopping centre with a Joe's Garage and cafes there - right about the centre of 03/21 grass vectors... (said with clenched teeth) and about 200m from my mates' house which is pretty much right where I used to park the Cessna R172K after I'd finished with it. Oh, and that's about 600m from where Baz decided to build - just about on the thresh-hold of 21 grass... Am I ranting??

Restaurant The Good Home is very popular but for meals you must book couple of days ahead. Joes garage as my Wigram deprived wee friend points out plus Fush for upmarket fish and chips and i think other seafood,SuRa sushi, Kingfisher restaurant (Indian food) and Mexacali Fresh for Mexican food.

Chances are that I won't be making it. I owe Johnny some cash though so I will just set up a bar tab for him before I leave tomorrow afternoon. Enjoy your drinks on me (him) during the sesh.

I have an appointment with the Curator of Photographs at the Museum 1.30pm on Monday. So after that I'll aim to be at this Harvard Bar place - assuming I can actually find it. See you then. Later note: According to their website they close at 4pm on Mondays

I'm sure this was already mentioned about them closing early on Mondays, which is why I suggested the other bar at Wigram, Joe's Garage.

Johnny you've got it wrong again ha ha. Sounds like Joe's Garage is the place, if it's nice we can sit outdoors.

Bugger... Do we need to book? Otherwise there's Brian Hall's (owner of the Saudi BAC-167 Strikemaster) establishment at Halswell

You don't need to book at Joes or the Good Home place to have a drink. See everyone at Joes?

I'm a no-start and Johhny was quick off the mark the other day. He insisted I pay him back in cash, so that was the finish of the bar tab I guess. I did hear that the guys up North pay less for fuel and reckon they have a better lifestyle, warmer weather etc. Perhaps one of them may take pity on the boy guys stuck in the hell hole that is the South Island.

Masterton is where the cheap petrol finishes on the eastern side of the North Island.
That's because Masterton has the southern-most Gull service station on that side of the country.
I'm not sure where the southern-most Gull service station is on the Horowhenua/Kapiti side of the North Island, but wherever it is, that will be the end of the cheap petrol as you head south on that side.
When there is no Gull, the other fuel companies ramp-up the prices to rip-off levels. However, having said that, Mobil often undercuts Gull in Masterton. It can be real cut-throat at times.
And the most rip-off prices I've ever seen in the South Island is at Franz Josef. Yet the price drops at Fox Glacier, even though the tanker has to drive through Franz to get to Fox. Even Haast has petrol considerably cheaper than Franz Josef. Lots of tourists at Franz Josef to rip-off....go figure!!

Don, Peter and self did. Others tried but didn't. A few beers. old photo albums, and much aviation chat...above the JG din (am I getting old?). It was a pleasure to meet Peter in person. Next time (medical renewed and BFR done) we'll go flying and drink somewhere quiet after
