This one comes from my friend Hollie Claris, who was a Wireless Operator-Air Gunner on Avengers with No. 31 Squadron And these three I have posted previously, and come from the collection of the late Alan Andrews, via his daughter Lyn Adams. I think Alan was a member of No. 31 Servicing Unit A lovely image of NZ2519 in the air near Gisborne NZ2501 on its belly at Gisborne NZ2534 on its nose at Gisborne. In the background are several Harvards belonging to the squadron Please share your photos of Avengers in NZ service, with No.'s 30, 31 or 42 Squadrons, or as civilian-owned examples.

Looking forward to what pops up on this thread! Those photos you've posted are very interesting. Looks like mice have nibbled on the elevators of one Avenger!

You reckon the Japanese gunners were firing mice at them?

Oh yes highly trained mice of course . I was interested in the paint work on the Avenger marked "I" can't make out the NZ number, damn that shade! The vertical fin looks like there are two colours on it and the rudder. Can't say I've noticed that before. You look at the three flying together and they look all one colour on the same areas.

Yes, I have looked at that too. It is random, almost more like a paint touch up on particular areas rather than being a designed camouflage pattern.
I find it interesting that some of the No. 31 Squadron aircraft wore the large letter codes, something I have not seen on No. 30 Squadron aircraft. We see in these photos E, I and W.
It's frustrating too that I stumbled onto at least two personalised names on these aircraft not seen before but the photos are so poor it's hard to make them out. One seems to be "SharonC" but the other above it is difficult indeed. It may be "Young Vera". It's certainly Young something. And of course we do not know the serials of these planes.
One of those aircraft is a real veteran with 41 bombing strikes and 21 spraying raids (the watering cans) marked on its side.

Great to see some historical action photos of the Avenger. Interesting to see some of the characteristic of the aircraft in service. I haven't seen any of those photos before and looking forward to hopefully seeing more.
Work is progressing well on NZ 2504. We went down to Ohakea on Friday and spent a couple of hours going over Brendon's aircraft with camera and tape measure trying to figure out how we will make up some of the missing items.
Does anyone know of a 'BER' Kollsman pitot static head (part # AN5816-2) The existing one is beyond use. I have a couple of photos of the item but I cannot post them here for some reason.

Here's a rare shot of NZ2506 in 1946 from the SunLive newspaper site. Taken by Jack Browne, they state it is Woodbourne but it's clearly Ohakea or Whenuapai, and I'd say it's Ohakea.

I do not have the pitot head, but I have the drawing if that helps. The -2 is a 24V unit. Its old reference number was 106A/334. It appears to have a part number of 126-108.

Here's "Plonky" on Lord Howe Island when she was sold to Australia from the Alpine Fighter Collection, flown by Rex Dovy from memory? Note the paper taped to the roof to keep the sun off the crew for the long flight under the Pacific sunshine! Sorry no in flight shots took video of the take off!

Nice photos Peter. That one of NZ2527 is particularly interesting. Is that how she arrived at MOTAT? Is she fairly complete in the engine compartment as I can see the oil coolers (at least the starboard one) are still in place.
