The following photos have been submitted by a forum reader for me to post, some may be Air Force Museum Copyright. So is this a muffler on the exhaust, or perhaps a flame suppressor?

I noticed that too, Planecrazy; flame damper also visible on NZ2526 above.

Baz that photo was taken at Ardmore 11.5.63 so it wasn't the condition MOTAT got their Avenger , much more weathered and worn from memory....it was a long time ago

Great to see some historical action photos of the Avenger. Interesting to see some of the characteristic of the aircraft in service. I haven't seen any of those photos before and looking forward to hopefully seeing more. Work is progressing well on NZ 2504. We went down to Ohakea on Friday and spent a couple of hours going over Brendon's aircraft with camera and tape measure trying to figure out how we will make up some of the missing items. Does anyone know of a 'BER' Kollsman pitot static head (part # AN5816-2) The existing one is beyond use. I have a couple of photos of the item but I cannot post them here for some reason. I have some spare pitot static heads - one of which should suit what you need ( stream line or shark fin type). Drop me a PM and I will send you a photo.

I'd better dig up my Wigram Avenger photo, I like the theme "The Grumman Avenger Pile" ... I sure I can create a few other piles

I want to "Like" the post above because of Peter sharing the photos, but in all good conscience I just can't. It makes me sad. My grandfather helped "de-mil" and paint this Avenger, and now look at it.

Just following up on the photo's I had here, they are lost some reason I deleted them, but that is OK, gives me the excuse to return to Wigram.

I'm very surprised OSH has not walked in and deemed the above unsafe, be worth a looksie tho. Why would they? It's not a workplace. It is someone's back yard. I think you maybe surprised when and what these OSH peoples and how these people operate you can tell 'them to psss off' if the land owner is there but, my brother did this as full time work place, when they track a construction site even tracked simply because he was installing a product on his own and typical off what he has done for 25 years, Good dumbness , First and the best .. one stupid rule for example .. every powertool needs a WOF and checked every three months ... go figure! Second dumb rule .. required to wear a hardhat .. Rick is standing on a roof about to place a window in a two story building. Hang on the hardhat is for the incoming 747 about to land on his head. Third dumb rule .. Here is the CLASSIC , installing double glaze windows, I've worked with Rick , and truly if you want windows installed this guy is friggen amazing ... If kids return home after school after ripping window's out, one has to pack up and go home ? Seriously .. if a kid gets a cut here, ripped aluminum .. coke can material these people would be in, all it need is one to bla bla and complain and the FUBAR hits the fan All it needs is one who dose not have any tru sence and it starts from there. Crikey if you had to seen what I got up to .. tunnels .. I think about it now I'm a lucky barstard .. treehut with a flying fox using cloths line wire 30 meters up, the council told my father it had to come down ... it was so good one could see it from the overhead bridge in Sockburn , one side off the road was Wigram Control Tower .. go the other side of the bridge/road and look a little further .. I do wonder what OSH would have said.

My grandfather helped "de-mil" and paint this Avenger, and now look at it. I played on this as a child and my father was involved in fitting new main gear stub axles to allow it to be towed to Auckland "for restoration". I hope it gets the attention it deserves before it is too late - if not already.

Very interesting clip of an Avenger getting into then out of some strife, lucky there was an airport close by, I'm not a pilot by all accounts this chap did very well!
