Can anybody identify location of the last photo? The launch named RUAHINE may assist in this. At first I thought Lyttelton, but now doubt this - perhaps Wellington or Otago? However it seems highly distinctive to me. David D

Could it maybe be in the Chathams? Or perhaps Northland?

The lighthousy thing to the right of the tail should be distinctive.

I just received this message from Felicity Roworth: "Deffo Lyttelton - look at the small hill in the background on the photo in the link below - almost perfect match for diagonal line in the old pic - from the small craft Ruahine to behind the right wing of the Sunderland (I have entries in Dads log book for flights into Lyttleton circa 1958.. not this plane though which looks like serial ends in 06 - NZ4106 p'haps) kind regards felicity commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Modern_tug%2c_Lyttelton%2c_Canterbury%2c_New_Zealand_4_August_2005.jpg "

Nearly into the bottom of the box, these are a mix of mine, official, copies of albums and a few National Archives Don't ask me which is which!

Yes , I can confirm this is Lyttleton wish my father had'a taken me down on this day, as for the background YIP the inner harbour Crikey I still recall the old lighthouse and in the late 60's early 70s you were able to walk around to that wharf in the background , Avonhead Primary school trip , the harbour masters name Mister Shaw, his son was a class mate ... biggest thing was back then we were able to study the ships . EDIT: Classmates name was Jermery Shaw .. hell's that go back to then Standard 3 or 4

Geez! A low level pass with both props feathered on the starboard wing! Was that for an airshow or just showing off for the camera?

It would be nice to know who the pilot was , and how many were on the rudder peddle . I don't know how docile a Sunderland was but certainly the pilot needed super sized personal fittings, although I have a shot of a Hastings doing the same. Perhaps it was a private competition ?

It seems reasonably common for 4 engine types of that era as I've seen the Hastings and I sure there's one of a Bristol Brazabon doing the same. I think it may have been the 'done' thing at the time.

Here it is and it looks like Hobsonville again! The thing to do perhaps at Hobbie

I'm sure there is footage somewhere of an RNZAF Sunderland very low down and with two props feathered flying round at an airshow somewhere in NZ. I have no idea where I have seen that though. Probably here on the forum. It wasn't Rongotai.

I love that shot (2nd to last in the most recent selection) of the tender with the Sunderland, flaps down, at what appears to be Laucala Bay
