Possibly inspector # 4 at Vought Aircraft? Making it a Corsair ammo box. Or perhaps 4A is section 4 in the armament section and inspected by #19?

Thanks, but this is one of the boxes in question: and apparently these are Corsair: unfortunately I'm not going to be near them (the Corsair ones) for a couple of days to check for stamps.

Hi guys. The f4u boxes are available now. As a couple of people here have shown interest please PM me or email an offer for the pair to devon21syndicate@vodafone.co.nz and we'll go from there.
Thanks

Remember the F4U box tops are also the upper wing surface, so may have remains of the roundel and bar.Might be useful to determine what some of the colours actually were!

Not as far as I recall at the moment, the discussions ended up as similar to PBY but not quite the same. I thought maybe Hudson or Ventura.

So the "V" could indicate "Vega" then? Although of course it could be from any subcontractor whose initial letter just happened to be a "V". David D

Maybe, I spent a bit of time looking online at a couple of inspection stamp lists but none matched. The Lockheed stamp for P-38 parts was closest and another site showed similar for Vega.
