The Oxford project really is incredible. I've not seen much of how it arrived at Dairy Flat.
Thanks Dave and Don for sharing these photos, there are some real gems.

Yes, agreed Zac. Seeing the Oxford now, you wouldn't know the beginnings of the project. much the same as many restoration projects, I'd say. Fantastic result by all concerned. Appreciate the sharing of these treasured photos documenting the progress.

The Oxford was like an IKEA flatpack when Don and the boys first got hold of it.

Dave, the DC6 photos showing the aircraft in the hangar are at Whenuapai. Mangere didn't open until 1970 and the DC6s had all gone by then

I think Mangere actually opened in 1966, rather a big event then. David D

That is correct David D. Anniversary weekend 1966 was the Official opening. Attended on the Saturday. Bill Peterson and I attended four pageants in January 1966 with DC3 AZL. First was Kaipara Flats on January 1st, and Taupo and Opotiki the two following weekends and Mangere on the last weekend.

I'm pretty sure that is not one of the Whenuapai hangars, is it? I don't recall the ex-TEAL hangar, now No. 6 Squadron's roost, being so big and having that weird roof structure.

Dave Starr's right, the Auckland International Airport opened on the weekend of 29th, 30th and 31st of January 1966. However it was operating before the official opening too.

The hangar with the DC6 in it is the Air New Zealand hangar at Auckland International.

Dave, a small correction if I may, Armstrong Whitworth made aircraft, Armstrong Siddeley Motors (ASM) made engines, hence the Cheetah series of aero engines are Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah 1X, X. The first picture following the Oxfords being scrapped, where you say you do not know what the parts are, it is an Oxford Instrument panel I believe. The siamesed tachometers are the clue.

Ah yes, quite correct Ron regarding Armstrong Siddeley, thanks.
