It's my last week of holidays, and I've finally sat down to give my modded version of Clod a blast, and it turned out to be well worth my while. The work that Team Fusion have put into this sim has made it into the PC sim I have wanted since my mate lost the disc to Their Finest Hour... The campaign has been fixed, and I just finished the Big Wing mission at the end. As I circled aimlessly I had two thoughts: "I feel like I'm inside the Battle of Britain movie!" And: I kept on failing to shoot anything down and it felt realistic - pilots often said the sky could be full of aircraft and suddenly empty. Here are some pics: Leigh Mallory's (Bader's?) Big Wing After the merge: Into the furball

Well... I'm no Spike Jonze, but I've thrown together a little show reel of the Big Wing mission I took those shots in.

Is it available online or did you buy it locally? How much was it? Cheers - looks as good as I had hoped it would after all the negative press from the first release a few years back

I bought a hard copy full price when it came out "a few years back" for a hundy or so, but all the bugs put me right off for ages. The box had a nice map in it though, so there's that... I see it is on Steam for $60 now. The updates which take the game from deeply flawed to really enjoyable are on the ATAG forum here: theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/

Hi guys. I play this often. Online. I'm from Auckland. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be hard to find full servers due to time differences. For this reason, would anyone be interested in teaming up on a flight some time?
Perhaps even a NZ squadron could eventuate and compete in the mornings of the weekend, when everyone else is playing. I actually only fly 109s, but I can fly the British kites just as well.
And yes, I can't say enough about this game in it's latest form thanks to Team Fusion.
It is THE WWII flight simulator. Forget DCS. The planes may be pretty, but that's about it.

Obviously the latest iterations are also good, Battle of Stalingrad and Battle of Moscow, however these don't quite have the 'community spirit' that Cliffs Of Dover has.

I've got a collection to add, I'll have to dig them up, tell, in winter if it is a little chilly, this program COD will have you sweating with 30 minutes, requires Hardware Track IR, a virtual headset, were I had to stop using the program simply due to accident , aircraft graphic's really are STUNNING ..... I should test myself again, may help fix this little injury ... really is a lot of fun.

As we have seen the level of detail in the cockpit simply impressive as with the shadow effect. I must reinstall this, be interesting to see how I go, having a real head spin, I did have many more screens by I believe they were lost when photomucket mucked up but that's OK, an excuse to have a little play again

Quick question, what's the AI like in this? I know most go online to play but I tend to play these things offline. I still play BoB II: Wings of Victory although fully patched and cranked up, and although graphically it's not quite up to CLoD the AI in it is astounding, arguably the best in any flight sim.
Just wondering because if CLoD has decent AI I could be tempted to pick it up now that all the bugs and nonsense have been sorted.
Cheers,
Tim

Tim the AI in this is impressive, all the hassle complaints many mentioned when this was first released, seriously I could not find a fault, I have not play online 'Head to Head' as yet, this was just a 'fill in take a break from scenery design' playing offline, again Seriously Impressed!
EDIT : I think this has jumped into a different realm .. using all the latest technology, be very had to find anything as good.

Unfortunately the patches to install are a shame, but thats being sorted as we speak. Its well worth it! Even the offline campaigns are great. This guy's videos convinced to me buy the game. A german speaker of JG4 who flies... 109's.

That's some great detail in the cockpit of the 109. Might have to look at getting this. So do you download the original Cliffs of Dover and patch it?

There are very descriptive instalation instructions on the ATAG forum. Within a few months however the full version will be available on steam i believe, prepatched. Im desperate for some friends to fly with in the same time zone. Id be happy to help teach the basics.

That sounds great to me. Something to keep me busy when I'm not working on mouldly old Auster bits in the winter months sounds like a plan! My PC might need upgrading (no not might, does!) as I built it back in 2008 although I upgraded the RAM and video card in 2010. Still she's not top ogf the line but still manages to play most of the modern games although I need to upgrade my Windows to 64bit. All takes money and I'll have to wait til I'm finished building a new house and renovating the old one!!
