Wow. That's a historic photo mate. Will they polish the top or paint it silver?

Complete with some empty (I trust) Tergostrip containers in the foreground. Would be a big ugly job to strip a Dak I reckon. I did a few Cessnas in my time (aprentice's priviledge) but developed a sensitivity to the paintstripper and just about passed out one day (despite a full face respirator) I also found that the fumes actually blistered and took the skin off the tops of my fingers (eventually grew back) despite gloves and barrier cream. Fortunately that meant I could no longer safely carry out that job. Did they chemically strip DAK or use one of the newer abraisive blasting techniques? The new techniques would work well on something like a Dak with nice thick skins, but the tests we tried on Cessna airframe parts caused stretching and distortion - so chemicals were the only practical way. Glad I dont have to do that stuff nowdays! Should be good to see the new scheme - we await with interest!

Did they use stripper? I thought they'd just flown it around till all the paint was worn off naturally. It sure seemed that way last time i saw it at Wanaka ;D ;D

It's high time really, you know things are bad when Motat's Dakota looked better than the flyable one.

I have to add, , my comments above were meant in jest and not in any way meant to be disparaging towards the excellent team who keep the lovely old thing running. It has to be one of the few aircraft in NZ now that's truly a national icon, everyone knows ZK-DAK from either airshows or those excellent Bluebird chip adverts.
I hope the public will recognise her when she's "rebranded" in the silver and white scheme.

Right, sorry about the delay.... Lots of Citabria flying over the last couple of days...
Thanks for the photo... no turning back now! They used the hydro method as the paint pretty much came straight off... surprise surprise.
Now she is not going to be polished sliver, as it's not practical for us to maintain, however in the new VIP colours we are hoping to boost the flying hours as many corporate were put off by the old scheme.
Fingers crossed as it's always an unknown however we will all be working hard to pay for the huge bill for this work.
Fieldair have been great and we really could not have done this without their help. It's been a huge job, now time is of the essence so we can get her back in the air.
Cheers
Andrew
