I understand the Rolls Royce Merlin coolant pump was used in the day. I think the Simplex pumps came later in the Cub,Pawnee era,in the day you would have needed overseas funds to get a simplex pump, home made was probably the order of the day for the pioneers.

Tiger ZK-ANL had spray gear on it a few years back, it came by WAW one day and performed at Hood for one of the shows. Whomever owns it may be able to assist?

I was involved with restoring ZK-ANL back to flight around 1990/91. If I remember correctly she had been in storage/hangared for something like 10 years before she was collected by Gary Martin from the farm and trailered back to Bridge Pa for restoration. At that time ANL was still a complete and totally recognisable Tigermoth and just looked like she did the day she was parked up when retired from ag work years before. In todays world she would have been a mighty fine time capsule of a bygone era of NZ ag flying.
Her original spray gear was refitted as part of the restoration with a couple of exceptions. The spray tank was removed allowing the front seat and controls etc to be refitted. The brass spray booms were also replaced with alloy ones.
The original spray pump, pressure gauge and operating gear were also refitted. I am pretty sure that the spray pump was not one of the modified Merlin engine coolant pump types as the inlet to the pump from the fuselage spray tank was at the rear of the pump, not the side as with the Merlin coolant pump. I remember too that the spray pump was driven by one of those wonky blade spaced fans reputably from a Chevrolet truck?
Anyway it was while ago... pleased to of helped put a bit of NZ history back in the air and on checking my log book I see I managed to accumulate around 14 hours flying time in her before she departed Bridge Pa for pastures new.

Back in 1971, 1972 and 1973 when I was doing an electrical apprenticeship at the old Tomoana freezing works near Hastings, I often used to see a Tiger Moth spraying crops in the area immediately to the north and the west of the freezing works. Could that have been ZK-ANL?

ZK-ANL, wasn't one or the original ag Tigers, it was converted when it joined Marshal & Neville in May 1962. Last ag flight was 28 Dec 80.
ZK-BBG has an accident near Hastings 02 Mar 77.
Marshall and Neville also operated ZK-APZ & ZK-BBW.

I went out to GAPS hangar a couple of times last week to help a friend out on doing the brakes on his Auster and met a nice chap (cant remember his name just now) but he has a heap of Ag Tiger stuff and there was Tiger spray gear there....quite fascinating indeed and so good this chap rescued all that stuff! Some great Fieldair history in that building.
Maybe worth contacting the Museum?
Cheers Anthony

Hi Guys, I have tried many times in the last 24 hours to link my pics from buc ket. I have been locked out by Bucket. ( Bastards).Long ago i asked for help regarding Tiger Spray pumps etc. I want to thank Murry Kirkus,Ray Deerness, The Baron,Tomarse,Delticman, Throttle Jockey, Madmax and Al Galbraith. The input from all of you was taken on board and was much appreciated. Your reward was to have been pics of the finished article put on this site.Bucket has stuffed that idea but the pics are now on Face Book on my timeline.
