Seriously....I once sent an email to The Dominion Post after they did something equally silly with an aviation-related news story, so I sent them a link to the thread at this group where they were being absolutely ridiculed. They didn't reply to my email, but not long afterwards, the news story was corrected and what they corrected it to was almost word-for-word what somebody had “correctly” posted in the thread at this group. The part that really worries me is that, while we can pick holes in the misinformation published by the media about subjects where we have more knowledge than the average joe, how do we assess what misinformation we being fed about subjects where we know so very little? If we read a media item about, say, ballet, or coal mining, how much credence do we give to those reports? Anyway - back from the thread drift: Here is the Trojan at Ardmore yesterday, post first flight but before the bingle

So heartbreaking for the owner having gone through all that work. Believe me when I say I do know what it takes to get a T.28 into the air having been involved in a number of the former Laos machines rebuilt here in Oz. My thoughts with them and now knowing it must all be done again. At least no injuries. Aircraft can always be replaced.

Herald have no Cessna there now. Perhaps they had this thread pointed out to them? Seriously....I once sent an email to The Dominion Post after they did something equally silly with an aviation-related news story, so I sent them a link to the thread at this group where they were being absolutely ridiculed. They didn't reply to my email, but not long afterwards, the news story was corrected and what they corrected it to was almost word-for-word what somebody had “correctly” posted in the thread at this group. They didn't do the same for this one, even after an email specifically pointing out that pretty much the entire story was incorrect as it related to the crashed aircraft, as well as numerous comments by others on the online version (since deleted). As can be seen, it is still uncorrected. www.stuff.co.nz/national/3629796/Helicopter-had-crashed-before

I presume the cop is going over to write the pilot a ticket for stopping on a double yellow?

Owner Brian Hall spoke at the Canterbury RAeS monthly meeting this week and said repairs are already well advanced (various panels are with Feildair in Palmy for repair), the engine is with Air NZ Chch for NDT inspections and new prop blades (Grumman Tracker) have been sourced. Brian is an really nice guy and his enthusiasm for his various aviation projects is amazing. His tales of how he ended up owning and operating a Strikemaster are well worth hearing if you get the opportunity.

I chatted with him a few months ago at Ardmore, is a fine bloke - suggested that I jump up and get photos of the Trojan's cockpit. Glad to hear that repairs are progressing well.
