It certainly is and takes two to lift and carry it round. Takes about four to removed it from its tracks and lift it down. Without dissembling too much of it we are trying to clean off the dust and tidy up some of the deteriorating paintwork inside the canopy.

An interesting observation regarding this Sabre; the Aerospace Museum at San Diego has a Sabre on display with exactly the same markings - and it's in far better condition. But I have no doubt that Classic Flyers Sabre will be in great shape when it eventually emerges from the restoration hangar.

You mightn't believe it but the engine and most heavy equipment is in the aircraft but it has a propensity to sit on its tail at the least provocation. Even has three 20 litre water containers in the inlet duct. As you can see there is nothing propping up the nose gear.

Yes there were 6 x 0.5 cal. Browning machine guns. There is some weight in them but I wouldn't have thought that thy would have made the difference.

DC-3 ZK-AWP has taken up temporary residence at Classic Flyers for the summer months' scenic flights. Unlike last year when the DC-3 was ferried over from Whakatane on Saturday morning and back again on Sunday afternoon, the DC-3 will be tied down on the grass alongside the Heron. It is cheaper to base it in Tauranga over the summer months than at Mangere.
