Are any of the little 7/8th scale homebuilt Replica Plans SE5a's still actively flying in New Zealand? I remember one was ZK-TOM built by Tom Grant and the other was ZK-SET, built by the late Stuart Tantrum. Are they still flying?

So there are two replica SE5a's at Wanaka? The NZFPM had a full sized replica hanging from the museum's roof.

Yes - from memory that one was by Tony Ditheridge's AJD Engineering (also built the replica Avro 504 owned by TVAL).

Correct. And it was due to the nice work AJD did on those two aircraft that prompted Sir Tim Wallis to partner with Tony Ditheridge in forming Hawker Restorations so he could get his Hurricanes restored.

I have a treasured book New Zealand Warbirds by John King published in 1989, it states there are two SE5A replicas in New Zealand and there are a couple of pic's of ZK-SET one by herself and one with two Issacs Furys and a DR1 replica.
Who would of thought back then that today there would nearly be a flying circus of WW I aeroplanes. Thank you to the likes to Peter Jackson and others for making such so!

And that same Fokker Dr.1 replica from way back then still leads the seven/eight ship Fokker Triplane formations today.

Always liked the SE5a - both the scaled ones, and more recently the full sized ones... I guess they all are - to greater or lesser extent - 'homebuilts' but luckily both the original RAE drawings and Jim Kiger's (Replicraft) drawings are pretty good if you want to build one - which I have been doing slowly over a number of years. Luckily there are some pretty helpful people who have done lots to advance the project along the way. Started out with some original woodwork, a Hisso, and the above drawings - a few photos below of the current state of progress. It will be finished on 'Wednesday' Rgds Hvd1041

Bravo! I know from experience Jim's plans are exquisite, you could even frame them. Beautiful work, and that engine looks rather nice!
