It's official, Ron Mark has been appointed as Minister of Defence.
Andrew Little has been appointed in charge of the Intelligence agencies, surely an oxymoron right there...

Hmmm, "RNZAF’S NH90s Unreliable Money Guzzlers" - it takes one to know one.

I think Mark needs to realise that the period he's quoting hours from was during the conversion of crews. Unlike anything the grunts use you cannot simply jump into a new helicopter several generations ahead of the Huey and expect to start work without full training across the squadron. It's not a bloody truck or jeep. What a complete tool that guy is.

PLUS the NH90 can carry almost double the Huey load so it almost halves the flight hours anyway, so this is stupid politicking by an uninformed dickhead.

He is in the habit of shooting his mouth off, the interesting thing is most of the things he has attacked in the past have been carried out under Labours watch, I get the impression he is not that sharp

The NZ Army already has a drone unit, using NZ-designed and built drones.

That article was written back in April. I think he might have some explaining to do. Yes , a week or so after the whole fleet was grounded after the engine failure following the Omaka airshow . I'd say he was just taking a chance to bad mouth them while he could ( and whilst people might be listening ) .

He definitely has something against the NH-90. If he had his way we would still be flying the Iroquois. Hopefully NZDF has a plan to get him up to speed with the facts and get him into the 21st Century!

Marks' problem will be explaining why he needs $Xmillion to replace a relatively new aircraft. As has been said, the NH90 has considerably greater capability, therefore less hours are needed to shift the same number of troops - that is why the number purchased didn't need to equal the number of retired Iroquois frames.

My suspicion is that in three years time ( hopefully not longer ) we will still be flying the P3 and C130H too . Just my opinion , but I dont think that the politicians feel we have squeezed every last cent of value from these airframes yet ( and I dont feel this Government is going to be the one to go on a spend up -- hope Im wrong )

Well....that idiot in The White House is merely hastening the passing of the superpower baton from America to China. It is going to happen eventually (no major power lasts for ever....just as the Romans and every superpower since), but Trump is facilitating it happening sooner rather than later.

I don't like the idea one bit, but I am not convinced replacement aircraft will be purchased.
