Is anyone from Wanganui/Manawatu/Taranaki planning on going? I'd love to but money is super, super tight for us and I'm not sure I can justify the petrol cost on my own. Am going to WONZ from Taupo, but up and back in the day.

Sorry Baz, was meant in jest. Oh it was taken that way Dave, I laughed when I read it! This is the type of banter Anthony and I indulge in so welcome to the club!

OK, banter aside. We are just TWO WEEKS away from this event. The speaker line up and activities are shaping up to be one of the best forum meets we've had. As well as all the other speakers mentioned, Wing Commander Brett Marshall of the Air Force Museum of New Zealand has confirmed he'll be coming and also speaking at the event. This will be great, Brett is the second-in-command of the Air Force Museum.
Also Andrew Gormlie of Classic Flyers Museum has very kindly put up a Boeing Stearman ride, to be drawn on the day for those attending. Wow!
I have heard a few people think this event is too expensive, but where else can you get to hear eight diverse speakers talking about aviation, plus lunch, access to the museum, a workshop and archive tour, and the chance to win a ride in a WWII classic trainer for just $30. If you're wondering about whether or not to come, just do it. Contact me now. I am sure you won't regret it.

I have heard a few people think this event is too expensive, Really? Some people need to get out more as this is bloody cheap! And unique. And you get fed too? These forum meets are a way to actually meet some of the people you read about and hear their stories and actually talk to them. It's a no brainer. Go!

I definitely don't think it's too expensive, I just have to prioritise medication/food over personal trips unfortunately.

There are just three days left to secure you tickets to this event. We're now looking at having a fairly good turn out, but there are still 15 people on my list who have confirmed they're coming, have been sent the payment details, and have not yet paid. So if you're one of them, I am looking forward to seeing the payment from you before the 25th of February, thanks. And also now is the time for those who are deciding last minute if you're coming, because next week is too late.

Yeah Dave just me coming now. The two of us plus a committee are running a Community Sports Day next weekend and he said he can't come now. $30 on the way for me.

We still have a spare seat available in 172 JSP leaving Ardmore for Tauranga at 8.30am on the day and returning late afternoon. Why drive when you can fly, and arrive in style?

Right, I'm away from tomorrow and offline till after the event, so anyone wishing to contact me will not be able to. So no more last minute tickets, the ticket office is closed. And for those who've registered, see you there on Sunday! Don't show up too early because you'll be waiting outside, and when you do arrive, please line up to be checked off the list. Doors will open around 9.45am for you to file in.

For those attending the Classic Flyers meeting on 4 March the following may also interest you, “Queen Mary 2” is due in Tauranga at 0445 Sunday and acording to the Port of Tauranga website is overnighting there until departure for Bay of Islands at 1800 on Monday". Will those on board ZK-JSP be taking any photos of it...

Just returned from this event. Well done Dave, Des and Andrew for the organisation and running of the day - I came home tired, but inspired to hear some of the stories and background to some of our history. About 60 attendees made the day a great experience, and the chance to meet some old acquaintances - one I hadn't seen for over 40 years. Although a long day with an hour and a quarter drive each end, I would heartily recommend these forum meets to anyone who can make it.

Will those on board ZK-JSP be taking any photos of it... I flew alongside her as I joined left base for grass runway 07 this morning. She is huge. It made the (also just arriving) Seven Seas Voyager look like a rowboat. No photos sorry. I was solo and a bit busy with landing. Also, great meetup! Enjoyed all the speakers. Enjoyed the lunch. Enjoyed the museum and restoration workshops. Enjoyed the chat. Enjoyed the flight there and back. The modest entry fee was tremendous value for what we got out of it. Looking forward to the next one (and seeing some photos from this one). Funny anecdote. When the event finished, the cafe and museum had closed and all access doors to airside were locked. Whoops.... I ended up jumping the fence to get to my airplane. No authorities showed up so I think I got away with it. Admittedly I was wearing a hi-vis, and therefore indistinguishable from an authorised person...
