The latest episode of The Wings Over New Zealand Show is now online. Episode 169 is a recording from last Sunday's The WONZ Christmas Party event, and features Paul McSweeny of Pioneer Aero Ltd. Paul talks about his background in the RNZAF and how he began working at and then co-owning Pioneer Aero. He also talks about the latest projects, past restorations and the future projects that are coming up on their rebuild schedule for the near future, such as the de Havilland Hornet. This episode was recorded in front of a live audience in a hangar on an active airfield, so there is some aircraft noise and the audio quality is reflected by the circumstances. Here's the link:www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZShow/2017/12/169-paul-mcsweeny/The Bell P-39 Airacobra currently under restoration at Pioneer, scheduled to fly in early 2018. See the show page for more photos.

Really good episode. Audio quality not perfect, but certainly perfectly adequate. Content a hearty 10/10.

Thanks. Yes it is always tricky recording in a hangar and with a sound system like that. But I figure it's better to have a not-great recording for those who couldn't make it to listen to rather than none at all. I'd just recommend people listen to it in a quiet environment rather than, say, driving.
The original plan was Stu Russell was planning to film the speakers and his fancy microphones would have been a better deal I think, but he had a family medical emergency just before he left to come to the event and so had to cancel. So it was down to my trusty handheld recorder along sadly.
I only realised in editing that some of the background noise heard would have been the data projector that the recorder was sitting next to, dammit. It effected John's recording more, but again it's still listenable.

I also enjoyed the show greatly, and it was interesting to hear from Paul about the upcoming projects. Thanks Dave for recording and posting this.
