Is this the little yellow Andrews aeroplane that John Saunders and Al Marshall sometimes fly from Omaka? National Library photo, their caption, "Mr C G Andrews beside the single-seater sports plane he designed" Date: 1955 Ref: EP/1955/1912-F Photograph taken for the Evening Post newspaper of Wellington by an unidentified staff photographer.

Yes that's the one based at Omaka. I got offered a share in her a few years ago but as I hadn't got my tailwheel rating yet thought it would be best to pass for now.

I believe there's only ever been the one example. The empennage is made from bits of Auster?

Yes - that's the one - designed & built by Cliff Andrews in the late 1950s - using a combination of his own ideas ( early Ag aircraft ) plus surplus parts - Auster, Tiger, Harvard ...and flown regularly - flew it the other day, it is a lot of fun ... not high powered but turns & rolls well.
Send us a PM if you're interested, one share coming up for Sale.

The Andrews A.1 ZK-BLU is still currently registered. It was conceived as a scaled-down version of a proposed production agricultural monoplane. Originally powered by a 65hp Continental, first flight at Rongotai 2Jan1957. At Te Kowhai January 1980

Don't remember it flying much in the '60s if at all. Cliff kept it in the then CAD hangar at Wellington.

True, the Andrews A1 was designed by Cliff Andrews however it was built by Lyn Macgregor at Aircraft Engineering, Rongotai. A dispute between designer and builder kept it grounded for many years.

I thought "Mac" had something to do with it. He was not unknown to disputes.....
