Masterton B52 was in Australia not "on the way". Hit runway lights on landing and was scheduled to leave Oz for NZ. That was so unbelievably disappointing however Wanaka different. Mandy deans will move heaven and earth to ensure it gets there !!!

They are probably just waiting for the Gov't to make the official declaration banning gatherings/events of over 500 people (possibly tomorrow?). That way they can say the Gov't made them cancel it. Hopefully there will be refunds for the tickets already purchased. There are a lot of overseas people that come to WOW. I imagine many of them won't be coming now with the 14 day self isolation imposed on all coming into the country. This would also apply to the foreign Air Forces personnel that were going to be participating. Sadly we won't get to see Easty's classic Hornet farewell display :+(

I imagine it would affect a few display pilots, Jurgis for one.

Latest:
WARBIRDS OVER WANAKA › 2020 Airshow › COVID--19 Warbirds Over Wanaka is monitoring the situation in regards to the COVID-19 virus on a daily basis.
The current intention is that the Airshow is very much going ahead as planned at Easter.
Warbirds General Manager, Ed Taylor, says organisers are keeping in touch with Ministry of Health best practice around events and will be implementing a number of measures around issues such as hand sanitising, aimed at helping to keep our visitors safe.
Ed notes one advantage of Warbirds is that it is an open air event held over a very large airfield space.
There will be no refunds of tickets because of the virus outbreak, unless the organisers are forced by the New Zealand Government to cancel the event.
See you soon.

All tickets will be refunded in full but they have asked ticket holders to wait for a few days while organisers confirm specifics about how people will be able to access refunds Mr Taylor said

I am really very disappointed that this event was forced to cancel. I was really looking forward to it very much. I have never seen the P-40N firing its guns before and really wanted to witness that on what was likely to be its last outing firing its weapons. I have never seen Jurgis Karys fly the Polikarpov I-16 and have heard he is legendary in it, so was really looking forward to that. And I was so looking forward to seeing the Wanaka Scholarship display with winners and forum members Andy Love in the Harvard, Ryan Southam in the Yak 3 and Bevan Dewes in the Spitfire. That would have been such a highlight for me to watch my good friends fly that display, showing how the scholarship has helped them all progress into serious warbirds. Also seeing lots of other friends flying in the other displays too. Ugh, so sad.... And there was so much more I was looking forward to, but perhaps most of all it was spending time with a big bunch of my best mates in a beautiful location, and hanging around the aeroplanes and having a hell of a lot of good fun. I totally understand and agree with the reasons for the cancellation but it makes me very sad that the show now won't happen. I had the whole trip perfectly worked out around 7 months ago, everything booked and arranged and paid for... I have never been so organised so fa in advance before for any trip. Such a shame all the earlybird bargains I got are now useless and I have had to send a number of emails to cancel the bookings. I now have to work out if I can change my airfares to go somewhere else, or cancel them and lose all the money.

Why not use the tickets and bookings and take a well-earned break in a beautiful part of the world?

I did consider it John but I decided against it. I might instead head north for Easter.

Lots of overseas cancelling also....just lost my Midlands Air Festival in late May Dang, sorry to hear that Ando. My next major concern is my trip to the UK and USA for Wings Over Britain. Everything is pointing towards that also going severely pear shaped.

My niece was heading overseas for several weeks. She had taken out travel insurance at the cost of $490.00. She has had to cancel and the insurance company has told her that as it is a pandemic there is no compensation...

I’m not a lawyer but wouldn’t a force majeure clause apply if in the contract?

It has to be an 'all causes" policy but even then you only receive a percentage of the fares etc
