Lois and I were in Sydney recently and we took a drive down to Wollongong to view the Historic Aviation Restoration Socirty (HARS) collection. This is based in the area of Albion Park Rail and actually on the Illawara Regional Airport itself. They host a marvellous collection of aircraft, mainly of aircraft from the WW II era up to the current years. Unlike a lot of museums their aircraft are mainly serviceable and fly regularly at airshows up and down the East coast. We took a guided tour and managed to get inside most of the aircraft for a look. In fact when looking at the F-111 we were encouraged to climb into the cockpit - not usually the case. The Defence Departments wants to see that the exhibit is open to the public. Besides the fairly modern F-111 they had an ex Qantas Boeing B747 and a Lockheed P-3 Orion. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and went out of their way to help us and to explain about the exhibits on display and being worked on. Here are some of the photos I took on our guided tour. Great stuff Mike. Much better than bean-counting. Damn right but unfortunately you have to do some of that to be able to do some of this unless you have a great benefactor or win lotto.

Nice shots. Was there a few weeks back at the airshow. Did they say anything about getting that Mirage A3-42 back in the air?

There was a bloke or a team of blokes down Vic way were or are having a crack at putting one into the air sometime ago and I haven’t heard much since, but that was a few yrs ago btw. Do you have any photos of Winjeel 35 as my soon to be wife uncle owns that particular Winjeel?
