The NZ Army and RNZAF received a significant percentage of the total WW2 production of the 8-cwt C8AX as knocked down kits. The cargo bodies were manufactured in NZ. This is one in RNZAF Pacific service. ww2db.com/ by tankienz, on Flickr There is no kitset of C8 available in any scale although in the common military modelling scales one could be modified from the visually similar C15. In 1/48 scale there are no models of any CMP trucks. So after much looking I decided the wheels and chassis of the Airfix Bedford MWD could be used as the basis of an RNZAF C8. Lucky Mightyape have them on special at the moment 20180712_205246 by tankienz, on Flickr While it will be largely scratchbuilt, I don't think it will be that difficult a build and it if the cab works out, the RNZAF used several other trucks fitted with the CMP No 13 cab in the Pacific on cargo trucks, ambulances and on a 6x6 chassis with machinery bodies.

Intrigued by the jury struts on the Corsair in top photo, holding the folding wing panels in the vertical position - was this a by-product of disabling the in-built hydraulic system? Usually Corsairs on land bases with their wings folded have them folded more tightly in against the fuselage, although presumably locked in position by some type of strut or latch. Anybody have an idea of what is happening here? David D

Yes it is interesting indeed, I wonder what was happening there.

I have seen other photo's of this strutting on the Corsair. Many years ago I mentioned it to Doug Greenbank who served them in the islands and he said they were sometimes used when the hydraulic system was U/S or purged and there being no pressure in the system to hold the wings in the fully folded position the struts did the job and saved the wings from flapping about

Over the weekend I put together the basic cargo body. 20180715_214657 by tankienz, on Flickr The donor chassis has lost all of it's Bedford bits the CMP doesn't need and I've started a new front axle to replace the non-driving axle the Bedford was fitted with.

I've got a production line going to make a further three CMP No 13 cabs to be used to make a C8AX ambulance (thats the extended body on the chassis), a C8Ax covered truck with YMCA sign and a larger C60 truck. fullsizeoutput_18d4 by tankienz, on Flickr

You might be 'suffering' from the C8AX Virus.

Oh hell and I understand there is no vaccine. You just have to build right through it. One more Airfix Bedford arrived yesterday EDIT and two more just ordered from Modelair

I'm beginning to think this is my model of the Chev CMP production line in WW2. I had to go back to the start of this thread to remind myself how I made the first cab. fullsizeoutput_18e4 by tankienz, on Flickr

Three cabs are slowly making their way down the production line. Curved front mudguards and roofs are ready to join the cabs. fullsizeoutput_18fc by tankienz, on Flickr

I located a set of round red crosses with correct diameter in the UK. Cost 3UK pounds, postage 8.30 UK pounds. They must be joking for a single set of decals so for a while it is square crosses. Still other details to add. fullsizeoutput_1912 by tankienz, on Flickr
