And Hawker Typhoon MN235 is still being re-assembled I suppose?

I guess so. It was mentioned in discussions. The entire museum is in a state of flux at the moment and I remember when the Milestones and Grahame White hangars opened, the place was the same. On a daily basis, we were going down into the hangars and moving aeroplanes about.

And Hawker Typhoon MN235 is still being re-assembled I suppose? Has it already returned from Coningsby?

I didn't see it at Cosford and it's not at Hendon. Dunno it's current whereabouts. Will be good to see it back on display again.

And Hawker Typhoon MN235 is still being re-assembled I suppose? It's been assembled for a while now and currently in the BBMF hangar.

Even been to the RAF Museum 3 times, 1979, 19976 and 2012. Each time I enjoyed it. The BoB hall has always been far to dark IMHO. it's good to see these 4 out in the light for a bit
But, that said dark is a feature of aviation museums, the USAF museum is very dark in places as well. And last time I went to Wigram , which was in early 1990's it was also pretty dark in the main hall. I remember most parts of the RAAF museum are also pretty dark
I've heard all the reasons for it, and I don't have any knowledge to dispute what I've been told. But as a punter (and one with bad eyesight) it's still annoying. I note plenty of other aircraft museums I've visited over the year aren't as dark.

Try the Science Museum in London - all the aircraft are on the top floor (Supermarine S.6B, Alcock & Brown's Vimy, Amy Johnson's Moth, etc) and all 3 times I've been there it has been almost pitch black. When I queried the reasoning it went along the lines of "It's such a hassle getting a cherry picker in here to replace light bulbs. We usually wait until the last few are still going, then replace them all at once...." Needless to say, if you turned up during the months at a time when they were on the far end of the replacement cycle, you could see flip all....
I have heard that light destroys/fades artifacts and paint, but you'd think in this day and age there would be a viable alternative.

Aww, I was hoping the BBMF were going to get it flying to join their collection.

Sounds like it is time to invent a drone that can be used to change the lightbulbs in museums without the use of a cherry picker.

yup - good idea - and if we could get rid of "themed" lighting as well, which Wigram seem to be fond of, viewing/photography would be better still.

Ahh, the good ole Science Museum aviation gallery - hasn't changed in nearly 50 years! Doesn't look as if it will for a while yet. There's some great stuff in there. 0407 Science Museum Aviation Gallery The last surviving complete Eindekker. 0407 Science Museum Eindekker Britain's first flying jet aircraft. 0407 Science Museum E28.39Neat about the Typhoon at Coningsby, only problem is, the BBMF display hall wasn't open for most of the summer. We were gonna go to Coningsby to go there, but were advised of the fact it wasn't open to the public before we left for the UK. An official statement from the MoD advised that it wouldn't be open and that the BBMF aircraft will be available at airshows round the country.

I've never been to the science museum. Might have to check it out next time. Those are nice photos especially if its as dark as reported. Did you use a tripod?

There looks like there is a shed load more light in there than when I visited - I don't remember the Me163 hanging from the roof - may have missed it in the gloom! Other than that, much as I remember it....

The Science Museum is an amazing museum all round, not just for the aeroplanes. Well worth spending a day there!

Hi Zac, no tripod, just the trusty Nikon. Did fiddle with the exposure a little, and my photos came out better than I thought they would in there.
Jp, the Me 163's been there pretty much the whole time.
Yes, David, the Science Museum is cool.
