I was surprised how quick Miss America is for what I always thought was a reasonably stock Mustang but it's obviously got quite a few extra ponies.

She looked like she had a shorter wingspan

She has the wingspan shortened to 32 feet (from about 37'), shorter ailerons, winglets, and a shortened tailplane. Also removal of gunports, etc to clean up wings. Not sure about engine mods.

check out facebook, taking Full Noise apart for the journey back home. Kind of reminds me of the description of a helicopter, "an assortment of parts flying in tight formation"

Aerodynamically, it looks like a scoop was removed. Unless it had a top scoop with her previous US owner she never had it when restored here. As far as I'm aware she is using her stock engine. It would be interesting to know how much power the failed race engine tried last yearput out.

It did have one in the states September 1996 at Reno Interstingly in 1996 Sherman Smoot flew it in the unlimited race and was placed 24th at 310.006 mph Sherman was flying Argonaut this year, pretty cool, wonder if they have mad the connection.

That's interesting. So "Full Noise" has come back full circle to Reno. Saw the Yak on Seven Sharp, great to see it on TV.

Interesting how some of the "new built" Yak 3s have the scope and others don't, looks much nicer and cleaner without the scope and obviously less drag.. Not that I know a lot about this to comment, so all the carburettor air is taken in from inside the cowling area? Those scopes in the leading edge root are only for the radiator or do they supply some of the air for the engine as well?

Good observation. In that the spinner is pretty tight and there are no chin scoops, the carb air must be coming from the wing roots. Don't know anything about the plumbing of a Yak but the leading edge scoops must have a dual function.

My latest rc ultra micro bird (410mm span) no she will remain in her pre air racing scheme, it was hard enough to paint the arrow she won't be getting the 35.

I am currently trying to convince someone who does good quality decals to do a 1/48th decal sheet with original WW2 Russian Air Force Scheme, original warbird scheme and "Full Noise" version suitable to use with 1/48th Yak-3 kit from Eduard - with builder modifications for the warbird and Reno Racer variant. Would be limited edition run, enough national markings and so on to do all three variants, with good instruction sheet with lots of photos of warbird version to assist with an accurate model build. Fingers crossed I can convince them. If I do, I will post details here. (The Eduard kit variant that had the original WW2 scheme decals is long out of production and hard to find these days. I have my Eduard 1/48 Yak-3 kits stacked up ready for this build project.) There are quite a few model builders in the US who specialise in Reno racers as their subject, so there is a market for them, and will help promote the adventures of #yakinthebox "Full Noise" at the Reno Air Races.
Regards,
