Wish to draw attention to AirHistory.net at www.airhistory.net/, a new website for aviation enthusiasts and historians. It is a searchable database of aviation photos that covers almost all aspects of manned flight, from ultralights and gyrocopters through warbirds old and new to the largest of airliners. The era is from the beginning of manned flight to the present day.
The emphasis at AirHistory.net is on aircraft and airports and not the skill of photographers and the technical quality of their photos. There is an acceptance that old camera equipment may not match modern digital and time can ravage slides, negs and prints. But such photos are worth saving for all to enjoy.
AirHistory.net is not a commercial site and is not hidden behind a paywall. It can be browsed and searched without the need become a member. Membership is for those adding photos to the database, which at the moment is by invitation while the continue to bed down the site. So please feel free to browse, enjoy and use the search engine to find your special interest.
Our New Zealand content is still small: Photos taken during visits by our members, Kiwi owned aircraft photographed abroad and New Zealand-built aircraft around the world. The Australian content is much more extensive, almost 19,000 images, because several Australians were involved through the beta testing. Their photo collections have attracted other Australians. It shows where we are heading and what we hope to achieve on a worldwide scale.
AirHistory.net is based in the Netherlands and subject to stringent EU privacy laws. It makes no claim on the copyright of the images in its database, which remain always with the copyright owner.
We would dearly like to hear your comments. Contacting me at carted65@gmail.com.
