You'd think Igor would've told the guy who asked him to do the 1/72 kit he was doing a 1/48 kit!! Unicraft Models in Ukraine is doing a new, 1/48 resin kit of the Fletcher. Unfortunately based on the photos of the master he's again put the (now separate parts) cargo door on both sides of the fuse. Oh dear. I've emailed him in the hope the mould can be corrected. You can see box art and the master, as well as some real aircraft photos (including one machine familiar to the forum), on the product page: www.unicraft.biz/on/fu24-48/fu24-48.htmAs I alluded to in the intro I've got no connection to this kit beyond suggesting the original 1/72 kit and supplying images, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited. This is excellent news.

You can buy a full sized one on TradeMe at the moment for $5000, Zac.

I don't have the money to do much with the one I have, let alone the one on TradeMe or even this new model! But the 1:1 is a good deal for someone.

Has any one purchased this kit and can comment on accuracy as they aren't to kind on Britmodeller?

Most modellers aren't too kind toward Unicraft kits - they're very basic, rough, require ingenuity regarding getting some parts, and need a lot of effort and patience to build. I'm not sure how many of them understand that Igor is a one-man band producing these models. As much as I'd like to, I simply haven't been able to afford this kit or even handle one so I can't speak to the quality but the 1/72 kit presented me with no major hurdles, and I have another to build. I can't remember how many I had brought into the country but I never heard back from any of the customers regarding the quality of the parts...whether that's a "no news is good news" situation or not, I don't know.
Anyone with experience with resin, time, and a decent spares box will do a great job. I still want one...even though it has a cargo door on each side...

I see there is one on Trademe at the moment.... hmmm. Not cheap especially after I had to pay top $ for a 1/48 Beaver on Trademe last week but they are so rare I could not miss out. Oh and then there is the 1/48th Hudson vacuform on the way as well. Darned Trademe.

Oh god, not the Hudson from Contrail?? That is literally the worst excuse for a kitset I have ever seen in my life. Rather than design and create a representation of a fuselage I am sure they simply vacuumformed over a dead fish. You should have gotten the Classic Airframes Hudson.

I'm getting lazy. I started filing a balsa mould to make a pressing for the underside of the engine nacelles to put on Revell Ventura to Lodestar conversion then the same day I saw the Contrail advertised.

I tried selling my 1/48 DHC-2 plus RNZAF Antarctic decals at one point .No one wanted it. What do CA Hudson's go for these days? Someone should really put out a new mold of the Hudson.

Is the Beaver kit any good? Is it Hobbycraft? Beavers are on of my favourite planes.

I have two CA Hudsons, one $120 purchase from local modeller who had several and one ex Italy advertised on eBay as damaged. I paid $38 + postage as the only bidder. When it arrived the only damage was about 10mm broken off one propeller blade. Easily rectified.
On Ebay there is one today in US $NZ400 including new huge postage.

Its the only aircraft kit with full clear fuselage I've ever had so need to be careful as brittle plastic. Write-up identified some issues but nothing horrific if you just need to take care with alignment modelingmadness.com/scott/viet/dhc2.htm

Paul, when the Contrail kit arrives I'll be keen to hear what you think. Maybe they have improved the kit.
In about 1995 I had a really lovely 1/48 scale mix media Fairey Firefly kit, unmade. My mate Kerry Carlyle wanted it bad - he already had one but he was wishing he'd bought two, and though I really loved that kitset I also wanted a Hudson far more, but as the Hudson kit was going to cost a fortune, I said he could have the Firefly if he got me a 1/48th Hudson. So he ordered it from the UK, and when it arrived I was so excited. Till I opened it. I was heartbroken. I'd never ever seen a model so terrible. It was just a WTF moment. And to think they charged is much for it too, and the exchange rate then was horrendous too, about 3.5 to 1. Kerry's never stopped joking about that kit and what a bargain he got, hahaha.
Luckily later the Classic Airframes kit came out and I grabbed one. That was expensive too. I still have not made either Hudson kit. And a final nice thing is Kerry built the Firefly in the colours of one that my veteran friend Ian Darby flew on as an Observer, and we took it to Napier and Kerry presented it to him. That was a great day. Sadly Ian's no longer with us.

Wow $38 for that Hudson is great. I paid about $80 for mine new in the late 1990's!
If I were to build a Beaver it would have to be on floats.
