Will they come through New Zealand like the Super Hornets did?

Latest two F-35A Joint Strike Fighter aircraft arrived in RAAF Base Willi on Sunday April 7. The two latest additions to the F-35A fleet A35-011 and A35-012 – bring the total number of aircraft in Australia to four. Assume Canada can get another 2 classics if they are doing it one-for-one in-out. Nice pic (ADF official) of a F-35 doing runway diversion training at RAAF Richmond i.e. Sydney by , on Flickr

McMaster, ref your quote at the top of the page, I can remember the Sabres being replaced by Mirage and seeing the massed flypast of Sabres at Richmond, then the Mirage by the FA,18 and now the FA.18 by the F.35........wonder if I'll be around for the next one. Have also been alive but maybe not aware from Mustang to Meteor/Vampire then to Sabre. Suddenly feeling old and in need of a little rest ! Actually received a txt from Peter Hallen on Sunday while I was calling the Hunter Valley Airshow that the two latest F.35s had arrived but it was too late to tell the punters who were starting to leave after the Hornet's departure.

Hey Ando. Impressive list of postwar fighters you’ve seen and you could probably add Canberra's, Pigs and Rhinos and Growlers eh. A little rest (until next airshow ;-) is deserved. I wonder if there will be a next after the F-35? A manned fighter you'd think unlikely. How was the Hunter show? Hope you sampled some of Pokolbin's fine vino. Wish I'd gone now to see the classic display esp as they will be absent from Illawarra.

First RAAF F35 with 77 squadron markings broken cover in the US. A35-35. Hopefully more colour for future markings like Eastys green F-18 . Both 75 and 77 markings pretty much are conservative representations of their crests, 2 OCU is basically the same as the F-18 flash and 3 sqn has the stylised Eagle winged bomb which was their late version F-18 tail.

I dont see that adding colour would make the F-35 look any less ugly! Errol

Unfortunately its one of those aircraft that do not have a good side.....except perhaps for the front......... I’d only add to a limited list of appealing angles with the view from top and bottom in flight as the planform looks pretty good. The wingtips stream vortices in most turns which is a nice touch they added too. Nice to also see the landing flare back as it was with the Mirage not that smack down the F18 does.

I see the Williamtown/Newcastle airport runway has been closed by flooding today. It is a pretty low lying area. Hopefully the F-35s are all safety tucked away in a nice dry hangar.
