Air Force Museum of New Zealand Forum Meet 2019 Air Force Museum of New Zealand Theatre, Wigram, Christchurch Sunday the 1st of September 2019, 10.30am $20.00 Per person
I am pleased to announce I am currently planning another Wings Over New Zealand Forum Meet to be held at The Air Force Museum of Zealand Zealand, at Wigram, Christchurch.
The venue will be the Museum's Theatre again, like last year. It is the perfect venue for this sort of event. We will have several guest speakers, who will be announced as they are confirmed.
And the date happens to be the 80th Anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War when Germany invaded Poland.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting me by emailing dave_daasnz@hotmail.com

Really good Dave.
I have booked to fly down to Christchurch for the day.
With thanks to a combination of Jetstar and AirNZ airpoints I can get Auckland - Christchurch - Auckland on the day for $79.
My Scottish grandmother would be proud!

My Scottish grandmother would be proud! I never had a Scottish grandmother (nearest I could manage was English) so I'm paying $90.90 plus airpoints but will come down on the Saturday.

It will probably be 10.30am till about 4.00pm, that is the usual duration.
It was pointed out to me this morning by Baz that the 1st of September is Father's Day. So this might a great thing for people to to bring their Dad along to, as a special aviation treat.

Paul Harrison has agreed to be a speaker so that is now two Harrisons on the line up. Not sure if they are any relation! Paul spent 35.5 years in the RNZAF with a big chunk of that as the RNZAF's Public Relations Officer. He has also written and co-authored several aviation books.

Dave, a small correction to my career. I spent most of my career in the telecommunications trade/Comms officer ranks and was the PRO from 1992-1998 at the end of my career.

Whoops!
I sent out an email to all members of this forum earlier abut this event with all the details, but in the email I accidentally typed the bank account number wrong. Blast!
The actual number is 03 1568 0001262 000.
I had an extra 0 in the email 😲. Please disregard the number in the email and use the above number. I cannot even send another group email now for another 15 hours due to a time lag the Forum insists on.
Cheers Dave

You can never have too many zeros on the job Dave

Apparently in this case you can as it doesn't work.

Exactly, that extra zero is preventing the incorrect number being used. That is why we need these zeros. Surely the troops can see that !

I have another speaker to announce. Those who attended last year and who have listened to the WONZ Show recording will remember Barry Lennox gave a really great talk on his time with Kaman Helicopters. Well he send me the following message:
"I can go on for quite a while about the atomic bombings, the political decisions around the time, the bomb physics, and similar, including opinions about the alternatives to not using the A bombs, and what if the Japanese did not surrender. Also while at Kaman I manged to attend a fascinating lecture by Paul Tibbets and Tom Ferebee , (pilot and bombardier respectively) of the "Enola Gay" They were both in their 80's, but Tibbets especially, was very fit and healthy. We also went to the Trinity test site in New Mexico a couple of years ago, and have some interesting pic from there."
This sounds absolutely fascinating and so I have added Barry to the line up. I have to say I have never had so many speakers confirmed so early in the planning. it's really shaping up to be another crackingly good event. Get your tickets now!

I'll look forward to Barry's distation. I owe my life to Paul Tibbets as the dropping off the bomb saved my fathers life. He was being prepared to "work" in a Japanese coal mine when it all finished. He was a civilian prisoner in Sumarta (indonesia) as a part of the Dutch East Indies. He was only 16 at that time . He never bought anything Japanese.
