I can certainly remember being slightly distracted by the aforementioned high transmission lines on short final into Waiouru. That evening in the Oasis Hotel was fairly lively as well...

Public Works Act - barr humbug. The lines are a threat to national security, The minister should be able to sort it out quick sharp.

As a young officer in the early 80’s the airstrip south of camp was still showing on the 1:63360 maps we were using. It no longer shows on the current 1:50000 map, but as I recall it was just to the west of the magazines.

Yes the grass strip is in behind the Rugby Club last used regularly when Austers were flying. I've only seen it used later for parachute supply drops by Brittol Freighter and Andover.
