So yesterday I went out spotting at Ardmore with a friend, Peter Dorbeck, and he mentioned (during a convo about the Harrier in Half Moon Bay, the Embraer at Totara Heights and so on) and he mentioned that along airfield road somewhere before the road ends and Mullins Rd starts there's a chap with some aircraft in his yard (the late Bob Leask also alluded to this as well about two years ago). Peter also said that a kindergarten has the body of a Piper? or some aircraft of similar vein. The only kindergarten with a "plane" on it near Ardmore I can think of has a fake aircraft. Anyone able to shed some light? Thanks in advance!

The Kindergarten on Hill Road has an old Cessna twin fuselage (don't know my twin engine Cessnas very well but it's a 400 series) which was sitting around at Ardmore for some years. It has had a mockup propeller stuck on the front and a vertical fin made out of wood so it doesn't immediately look like a real aeroplane, but the fuselage and wing stubs are real. Haven't heard of any other aircraft located off-airfield in the close vicinity to Ardmore.

1 down 1 to go. To muddy the waters further (I know I know), Bob alluded that the other plane was somewhere past Mullins Rd, e.g along Clevedon-Takanini Rd. Here's hoping we can get to the bottom of this.

Well there's been a few aeroplanes parked in paddocks in that vicinity very briefly and unintentionally in the past.

I saw one very nearly park there myself in February when I was behind it with Bevan in the Harvard! I seriously thought he was going to hit the trees. Scared the crap out of me. He pulled up over the treeline just in time. Total idiot.

I can confirm that the C.402B in the kindergarten is indeed the ex-Dave Cogan's ZK-EHS I had a flight in it shortly before he decided to scrap it.

When I drove past the other day I noticed it does actually still have ZK-EHS on the tail, albeit in child friendly cartoon lettering now.

I reckon I might ask if I can take some pics of EHS. (And just between you and me, I'm rather jealous of those kids having a plane in their kindergarten).

I would have been one very happy kid if my kindergarten had had a real aeroplane fuselage in the playground! I think all we had was an old boat steering wheel.

In the latest episode of Plane Savers 2, out today, Joe McBryan talks about having a crashed Fox Moth fuselages in his backyard as his playhouse when he was a toddler. Now he owns and runs a large air freight business, so I reckon such an influence on a youngster can only be good!
