Hi all,
While literature for nos. 485 and 486 squadrons is quite plentiful, there seems to be a lot less in regards to the other NZ Article XV squadrons. I'm aware of course of Graham Clayton's books on 488sqn and various bits'n'pieces in the Ventura publications however I'm after more recommendations for books on these squadrons, specifically unit histories but aircrew biographies would be good as well.
Regards,
HB

There is a new book on No. 487 (NZ) Squadron which I have not seen, but it's called Through To The End by David Palmer and Aad Neeven. ISBN 978-90-826475-3-2
There's an older book on No. 488 (NZ) Squadron too written by the squadron intelligence officer Leslie Hunt, called Defence until Dawn: The Story of 488 N.Z. Squadron, Church Fenton 25 June 1942 – Gilze Rijen Holland 26 April 1945. Southend-on-Sea, UK: Washbourne & Sons. (1949) This book is rare.
For No. 489 (NZ) Squadron there is 489 – An Unofficial History of No. 489 Torpedo Bomber Squadron RNZAF, 1941 to 1945. Nelson, New Zealand: David Burrowes. ISBN 978-0-473-11888-4.
There is also the personal account From Bunnies To Beaufighters: the Autobiography of Donald McKenzie Tunnicliffe, DFC, incorporating a history of 489 Squadron RNZAF, November 1943–May 1945. Christchurch, New Zealand: Alan Tunnicliffe. ISBN 0-9597830-2-4.
For No. 490 (NZ) Squadron I think the only account I can think of is Don Baird's book but the name escapes me at the moment.

I can't recommend highly enough the recently published "Through To The End, 487 (NZ) Squadron RAF" by David Palmer & Aad Neeven, how a Sqd history should be written. There are copies on UK Ebay at £45.00 plus P/P of course or if you're in London Ian Allan Bookshop have bought in copies from the publisher in the Netherlands.
David Burrows actually authored 2 volumes on 489 (NZ) Sqd, "489 An Unofficial History 1941 - 1946" and "489 Early Days. A Companion Volume"

I just came across this post and noticed the post by Phasselgren regarding 489 Squadron Books and the info on the book by Harold Blampied called Diary of a Beaufighter Pilot" - I created this book fro Hal from notes that he created from his diary - I only every printed 2 copies - Hal nad one and I have the other. I cant help but wonder how The The BRITISH AVIATION ARCHAEOLOGICAL COUNCIL found out about the book.
As an additional point I also worked with Hal's daughter to create a much more extensive biography of Hal's life. We printed 20 copies of the book which were distributed to his family
Hal Blampied DFC was a terrific person - modest and brave I couldn't speak highly enough of him
