Team... questioning for a work mate. Much debate about where this photo was taken. We have seen it on various history sites but it never states where!

It actually looks like Mangere with the Manukau Heads in the background, the van in the image also has NZ registration plates which would support this, definitely not Wellington or Christchurch
The shape of the geography of the Manukau Heads is quite distinctive when viewed from Auckland Airport

I think it could actually be Christchurch. From the rooftop viewing platform you would be looking across the Waimakariri River towards the Southern Alps.

The geography in the photo is quite different to the Southern Alps

Well this seems definitive. An Iain Anderson photo of Manukau Harbour on the NZ Geo website. Mangere it is.

Sometimes, with tele lenses you can get some unexpected backdrops of the Southern Alps, but I have definitely never seen anything like that NW skyline! David D

Thank you muchly - from my team mate FOV and cameras... I've had NZTA arguing that I used one of my drones for a shoot instead of the fullsize aircraft a few times with my road construction shoots. Quite entertaining! For the record, Piper Archer, no door, usually height of 500'. Add a 24-240 lens and not only can you count bolts on a bridge, you can make it look like any altitude

Why not fly the drone from the Archer and get the best of both worlds?

Why not fly the drone from the Archer and get the best of both worlds? fair question lol Because even with flaps-down, it's a bit too much of a struggle to keep up... but I do love a challenge. Easier flying the drone from a convertible... certainly when it comes to stopping and changing batteries!
