Know this is NZ modelling but couldn't see a Foreign modelling Thread. For those of you who, like me, are fond of the most powerful aircraft in the USAF inventory, I have news...... Yesterday I was told by a friend who is a modelling MASTER, that a new 1/72 scale Birdog is being prepared in the Czech Republic and should be released before the end of the year. Apparently a great deal of time being expended to make it the most accurate, finely moulded representation to date and vastly better than the last offering which I am told is about 20 years old. I look forward to seeing this and to having Jiri my mate model mine.....at least that way I'll have a 'complete' Birdog ! Now all I have to do is get Kagero to put out some appropriate decal sheets !
According to Scalemates Airfix's kit from 1973 is the only one in 1/72 so far released, and I'm guessing the listing for Special Hobby kit number SH72139 is what your friend's referring to. Exciting times as Special Hobby releases some pretty nice stuff!
I built a reissue of the Airfix kit a few years back and it's a lovely wee thing, but I'm keen to get Roden's 1/48 offering.
Jiri told me that a friend of his was doing it and that he would make one up for me. Currently on my desk at work (my boss indulges me something fierce) three P-51D, one Sea Hornet, one Ki.61 and a P47 plus recently acquired F.82. These latter two made for me by Jiri. His work is brilliant "Midnight Sinner" for the F.82 and "2 Big and Too heavy" for the P.47....all to 1.72. You may see a pattern emerging there with the last two. Looking forward to seeing what he does with the Birdog. He is now doing "Fighting Lady" P.51D for me.
