A clip of the event has recently been uploaded by AirflowNZ.
Instead of dealing with the traffic and crowds around the Auckland waterfront, Dad and I went to Ardmore to watch the ground op's and hoped for some buzz and breaks on their return, we weren't disappointed! I still kick myself for not taking a camera to these events.

I remember this airshow well. I was up on North Head. T Bland was the pilot in the Mustang, Robbie Booth in the Sea Fury. Not sure who was piloting the Venom but correct me someone if Im wrong but I think it was the same pilot that had the take-off mishap at Ardmore ( name eludes me sorry) EDIT... actually On second thoughts I think it was T Bland in the Venom as well? He flew that first went back to Ardmore and came back in the Mustang. ( if my memory serves me right) Trevor came in from the North East to start his display and was even closer in to North Head than what is on this video, so close infact you could actually see has hands on the stick and throttle!!! I think this show happened once or twice only. Big shame it has not been done again, its a really good advert spot for sponsor and NZ Warbirds alike.

I remember attending this and another of the harbour shows. I was viewing from Bastion Point. Great show. The water seemed to magnify the sound of the Seafury and Mustang.

Thanks for posting this, I feel like this event has been largely forgotten. This was around the time that huge public events in Auckland were at their peak with Opera in the Park and Symphony Under the Stars also taking place in summer. Unfortunately we're left with Xmas in the Park as the only survivor rather than this! Standing on Bastion Point I vividly remember feeling like I could have reached out and touched the Venom as it came past. It was the first time I saw fireworks "flak" being used with warbirds.

I guess the last time something like this was done by Warbirds on the Auckland seafront was the display they did for the launch of HBO's The Pacific? Or has there been other ones since then?

I guess the last time something like this was done by Warbirds on the Auckland seafront was the display they did for the launch of HBO's The Pacific? Or has there been other ones since then? The Red Checkers made the odd appearance over the harbour and it’s always nice to see the Warbirds on ANZAC Day and Battle of Britain Day flying past the Sky Tower but I certainly can’t recall any other proper displays.
