Having recently refurbished my old Airfix DH Heron, I was moved to purchase another new one (the new 2020 re-pop) and put it in the 1977-78 colours of Air North. I have done a fair bit of internal work on this one...cockpit details and cabin details (a floor, seats etc) and have replaced the horrible poorly fitting airfix windows. This kit dates from 1957, so it 'aint new! Bits of photo etch left over from Amodel Dove kits have also come in handy I can vaguely remember seeing this aircraft (again BBM) sitting outside the domestic terminal at Mangere in the late 1970s. Having painted up this model, you definitely get the impression BBM must've been the most 'visible' aircraft in NZ skies during the '70s and possibly ever since! Its not immediately obvious but the livery is actually 4 colours...red fuse and wings, yellow cheatline and bright orange fuse top with the black cockpit. Now working on some bright white Air North decals for alps printing... air north by Harry Follas, on Flickr air north by Harry Follas, on Flickr air north by Harry Follas, on Flickr
