I am a student in New Zealand studying about the Persian Gulf war and New Zealand's involvement within it. I was wondering if anyone had indepth infomation regarding No.40 Squardon RNZAF operations and events in the war. Also, what were the effects of the Gulf war on the New Zealand army, navy, and airforce? Finally, i am also curious to find about more about what was 'happy hour' and the RNZAF mascott?

Hi kurt. Welcome to the forum. There's a couple of threads here on the forum in relation to Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, which both relate to the first Gulf War, that I presume is the conflict you're referring to when you refer to the "Persian Gulf war".
For your information, I was a civilian based in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War in 1991. I was employed by British Aerospace. I recall attending a social function for NZ military personnel at the NZ Embassy in Riyadh during the war and I talked to many of them but did not take any names.
