I was approached last week by a member of one of the other societies at Ferrymead who had just been reading "Taking the Bar" which is a history of shipping on the Kaiapoi River.
In it is a small piece relating to Keith Wakeham from Air Charter (Christchurch) who in 1967 fitted Piper Cub BPC with floats to be used from the river for charters for hunters and fishermen wanting to go into the high country.
He just had one small problem and that was how to get BPC to the river from Harewood and flying seemed the easiest way apart from the fact BPC had no wheels. North Canterbury Transport provided the "fastest" flat-bed truck (a redoubtable Beford) and BPC sat on the trailer and lifted off as the truck thundered down the runway, much to the amusement of the crew of a USAF C-124 waiting to fly south but which yielded right of way to the escapade.
In the book is a photo of the combo but my contact wondered if perchance there was any movie footage of the event...any one know of anything?

That would be Keith Wakeman, rather than Wakeham, I think.
