I have been advised today that I have been awarded the Duncan Campbell Award for 2020 by the Royal Aeronautical Society. The award is apparently to acknowledge and encourage people in aviation journalism in New Zealand.
I want to sincerely thank the Bay of Plenty Branch of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Des Underwood and his team, for nominating me. I am extremely humbled that the RAeS has acknowledged my work with the Wings Over New Zealand Forum, Wings Over Cambridge website and the Wings Over New Zealand Show, and other activities. It's wonderful that the 'new media' is getting recognition by the world's oldest and most important aviation body.
I've been invited to Wellington to attend the RAeS Symposium and Annual Dinner on the 30th of October, during which the award will be presented.
I guess I need to find somewhere to stay in Wellington, and to start planning the trip. Wow, what a wonderful honour.

Thanks everyone. I posted this same post on Facebook and have been overwhelmed there with messages from loads of people, it's great that what I do has brought me so many hundreds of great friends. It's not about just the aeroplanes after all, it's also the people.

Thanks. I am very proud about how this forum has become a hub where all the different sectors of aviation in this country come together and interact. Such a pleasing thing.

Congratulations Dave, from a personal perspective I an extremely grateful for all your efforts in keeping alive the memories of those who served and died, and those who are still serving, in the RNZAF.

Dave,
This is a very well deserved award. I along with many other people continue to enjoy your website. As an expat living overseas for the past 20 years it has been fantastic to receive daily updates on the NZ Aviation scene, in particular your warbird news. You have filled a massive gap left by the late Ross McPhersons editorship of NZ Wings magazine.
Mate, well well done.

Well deserved Sir.... 'Sir' - Dave is such a modest chap, he didn't think to mention the accompanying knighthood! Errol

Thanks everyone. You have filled a massive gap left by the late Ross McPhersons editorship of NZ Wings magazine. Gosh, that is high praise indeed. Like everyone in NZ aviation, I held Ross in the highest esteem, and he is much missed. Peter, working with the NZBCA is always a great pleasure. Such a wonderful organisation and group of people. Errol, you can just call me plane old Dave.
