This is an interesting snippet from The Press on 22 June 1943, in that despite the war having been on several years there was still an effort to improve and beautify the military aerodromes and camps around Christchurch. Or could some of these have been vegetable seedlings for the RNZAF and Army's market gardens?
Plants for Camps One thousand bedding plants have been sent to aerodromes and military camps from the City Council’s reserves, according to the reserves committee's report presented at the council meeting last evening. In garden plots in and round Christchurch 24,550 bedding plants. 11,730 bulbs, and 140 other plants, have been used in the spring planting programme.
