I have been asked to post the following plea by Peter Anderson (Ando, Mustang51) Pukeko Replacement Required
Yesterday I clumsily broke my Pukeko and it really upset/annoyed me. I picked him up in Picton a few years ago in the middle of the best aviation and touring New Zealand holiday we have had hence the annoyance. I am trying to get an exact replacement (or two with a spare..) so that he can take pride of place again in the kitchen. Purchased in a souvenir shop in Picton I think on the western side of High Street when looking south. He is/was about 100/125mm tall and the legs are detachable wire that push into the base. Does not matter if he comes from Picton just that the replacement is the same. Anyone who can assist in this mercy mission shall reap a fine reward. Hope someone can help.

Guys, AussieBob and mit, many, many thanks for the tips. I have sent a 'signal' off to Kevin and am awaiting a reply. I know it sounds stupid being so annoyed about breaking it but it does mean a lot and had pride of place in the kitchen. Hopefully I may have a reply soon with the chance of a couple winging their way across The Ditch. I have always said this is the best 'aviation' forum in the world and now I know that whatever you ask - someone on the forum has the answer ! Watch this space. Cheers Ando

That's awesome news Ando. The forum triumphs again. This is such an awesome place when we use the 'hive mind' we have here, as you say you can ask virtually anything and someone will know the answer or can assist. I love this wonderful community of people.
It reminds me of in the 1970's in sci-fi TV shows like Doctor Who or Blake's Seven, people would ask a computer any random question and they'd get an instant and accurate answer from an oracle-like computer brain. The latter show's computer from memory was called Zen. And there's also the wonderful Holly in Red Dwarf, and Hal in 2001. Now we actually have that kind of technology, isn't it wonderful?

Yep, that sounds like the very definition of an internet forum!

I fully understand how this is upsetting; I am something of a disaster area and have previous for breaking pretty much anything vaguely breakable, so finding a repacement pukeko so quickly is a triumph; kudos to the forum!
One of the funniest hunting stories I have is of a pukeko... I was sidling around a swampy part of the farm, looking for something for the pot when I espied a pukeko wandering along, which all of a sudden noticed me and scampered off... it then decided that flight would be more efficacious and took to the wing, only to suffer instant retardation and cessation of flight due to a 7 wire fence that it obviously hadn't noticed!!
I swear that it picked itself up, shook its feathers out... and looked back, over its shoulder in that manner that says "No-one saw that, did they?!?" By now I was fair howling with laughter, and the haughty demeanor of the bird as it stomped off just added to my mirth...
