Yes thats the one . The fuselage was built over size ( 10% cant remember) , I guess for the filming space needed . Also an oversize half Sperry was built for the same reason but that was scrapped. I will check and see if I can post some of the MoTAT shots .

I did not realise when i was helping the set designer that it was a comedy-fantasy film. I cannot even recall the chap's name now, it was so long ago.

I think that it is great that they went to a fair amount of effort to provide an authentic feel for the movie. A fair number of their target audience have an interest in history, so it makes sense to do it right.

Yes but the story looks like complete crap. Maybe and not my kind of thing but these movies can become cults which would also attract non aviation (Sci-Fi) punters to the Museum. A smart move by Andrew and his team. I am not comparing this to Lord of the Rings but as an example some years ago I was working in Malta and discovered they still have the set from a Popeye movie as a tourist attraction!!!

Oh yes indeed. I think the B-17 replica is going to be an awesome exhibit for the museum, I have had a look at parts of it when it arrived there last year. I think it's a great addition to their line up there. I am just disappointed, I thought we were getting a proper WWII film, not a fantasy thing.

Yes but the story looks like complete crap. We can have true stories that get butchered. That 2001 romantic effort about Dec 7 would have a following, as would the one about the B-17 crew completing their tour. What was the one where the bomb plopped onto the tarmac ? Maybe that scene could be used as a draw-card if this new movie flunks.

I did not realise when i was helping the set designer that it was a comedy-fantasy film. Serious question: had you been told the story/plot, would you have assisted in his research? I am just disappointed, I thought we were getting a proper WWII film It may not be a film but Masters of the Air should more than ably fill that niche. It's bound to be released any decade now (currently set to start filming in March, can't see any reason that would change ). Yes but the story looks like complete crap. We can have true stories that get butchered. It's almost as though you've been on an aviation forum before!

Serious question: had you been told the story/plot, would you have assisted in his research? Of course. I get loads, sometimes dozens, of emails and PM's a week with a wide variety of requests for help and assistance that have come to me purely thanks to my running the forum, and I always try to help if I can. In this case I put the chap onto other people who could actually help in a tangible way, so I did not do a lot. But regardless I always try to help and there is seldom times when I have to reply that I do not know the answer or do not know who to refer them to. I am constantly researching for people, or putting people in touch with other people to further their research, their family history or their aircraft projects. It's just part of the responsibility of running this forum, and is part of the stuff forum readers and users never get to see, but for me it's a big part of my whole WONZ experience. Yes I am looking forward to that, I hope we eventually get to see it. I have now totally given up on ever seeing Dambusters.

On B-17s and movies........ what a fantastic movie could be made from "A Higher Call"! All the aircraft needed including DB powered Bf109s and even Me262s are available...and it would not have to be 'butchered' by some screenwriter to make it 'more dramatic'.

We have started back working on the B-17 for 2021. I have been framing around the starboard waist gun window wondering what we might do there when Garry arrived and asked if I was making room for a TV to be built in. Just as well he asked when he did otherwise I mightn't have been well pleased. Seems like he has recorded quite some footage of German fighters attacking B-17 and they want to show this on the TV for anyone who want to see what it might have been like. Maybe we need some noise to go with the view otherwise it will be too sedate. Dave has been looking around our stores racks and has found a couple of the radios needed for the fitout so has collared those. I can see that Noel will be making a few more Browning 0.5 machine guns to fill out the waist gun areas. 060121 (2) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr 060121 (3) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr

Only a small team working at the moment but we are still making progress. The port fuselage side skinning is coming along. I have undercoated the woodwork around the TV support in the starboard waist window area and putting some of the refurbished items back into the fuselage. 080121 (2) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr 080121 (4) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr

The team is back to work and they have made some progress on the fuselage skinning. The rear section is now completely skinned and they are working forward on the top surface of the mid fuselage section. Cal and I have installed the TV in the starboard waist gunner window and Dave is working away in the cockpit section re-arranging some of the equipment to better tie with the photos we have of restored B-17's. I am drawing up parts of the bomb shackle that we hope to get laser cut and bent so that we can produce the bomb racks with shackles on the port fuselage side. I have also started making another mould for some 500 lb fibreglass bombs to be hung on the bomb rack when completed. 300121 (3) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr 300121 (6) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr 030221 (2) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr 030221 (1) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr 300121 (5) by Mike Feisst, on Flickr

Although I failed to get any photos, the two rear sections have been separated again and the cockpit section put into position. This has had to be jacked up to the correct height (in relation to the centre-section) so that work can start on getting the external lines to flow into each other. This wasn't a requirement for the film set but for us it is and there is quite an amount of work required to get decent curvatures to the two sections. Keeps us out of mischief.

I went to see this movie, Shadow in the Cloud, tonight. Unmitigated claptrap with no redeeming features. I was tempted to walk out part way through, but I'm made of sterner stuff.
If you are given the option of going to see it or having your toenails pulled out, go for the toenails.

IMDB has a large number of user reviews, over 500. This was the featured one. Nonsense from beginning to end 10 January 2021 | by morin-eric – See all my reviews
I don't remember seing such a train wreck, nothing made sense in this movie. NOTHING. The person who wrote this garbage should never be allowed to write a script again, EVER. I give 3 stars because of Chloë and I think she deserves more than that TBH, she's a good actress IMHO and she gives an honest performance given the circumstances, but the movie itself doesn't even deserve a star. Don't waste your time on this one.www.imdb.com/title/tt9691136/
