Hey, I'm thinking of joining the RNZAF as a pilot when I'm older. I am wondering what steps I should take to increase my chances and how the whole process works. I'm currently taking Physics, Maths, English, Chemistry, and two digital subjects - if that helps.

The best advice we can offer you is to approach the RNZAF recruitment people, and engage with them. They will be able to talk you through the process, how it works and what is expected, and the tests and challenges you'll face during the recruitment process. They will know what the current process is far better than most people here. You can make contact with the Defence Careers people through their website. www.defencecareers.mil.nz/air-force/It would not hurt to talk to them now, even if you might have another year or two of school ahead, just so you can start to get a picture of where you're heading. Those school subjects you're taking are all good. Maths, English and Physics are all definitely a requirement for aircrew and in this modern era the digital subjects will also help. Also concentrate on your fitness, and make sure you keep abreast of world events, news and current affairs, read magazines like Time and North & South, etc. The best "tip" would be to be yourself. Good luck!
