They only xray bags if you're getting on a jet. So batteries must not be a problem on the turboprops? If the aircraft can reach another country then the airline has to follow international procedures. Otherwise NZ lets you do things like stroll out to the aircraft without anyone even glancing at your cabin bag, which could be carrying a gun, or an easily improvised weapon like you can buy in any international terminal after the security checks.

True. I had flow Blenheim-Wellington earlier that day with the battery like that, no problem.
I think the scan requirement is based on the number of seats (50+ ?) rather than jet or prop.
